The Top 10 Places to Propose in the UK

UPDATE 2022; Finding the best places to propose in the UK is an age-old task that many find daunting. I recently got engaged too. But I live in Thailand, so I took my partner to Bora Bora and proposed there. Check out the blog post here. Nailing that extra-special somewhere is a real challenge that no one should be ashamed to seek inspiration for. So without further ado, here are our top ten places to propose in the UK.

The London Eye, London

The London Eye is fast becoming the go-to place for proposals, but don’t let its popularity put you off – it still offers some of the best views of London and it won’t break the bank.

Lake District

The lake district is arguably one of the most beautiful places in Great Britain. Delighting forests, mesmerising sunsets and log cabins make for an incredibly apt setting when it comes to proposing. Just make sure you pick the right time of year, as those winter months get very cold indeed.

Llanddwyn Island, Wales

Lladdwyn Island isn’t your typical cheap weekend break in the UK, but it offers the chance to really get away from it all. With beautiful walks along the coast, moonlit dinners watching the stars and some simply staggering views of Snowdonia. If you propose here you’ll emerge a hero.

Cameron House, Scotland

Situated on the picturesque Loch Lomond in Scotland, Cameron House boasts some of the country’s richest heritage and is surrounded by almost unimaginable beauty. The only danger with this location is that once you’ve popped the question, you might never want to leave.

Palladian Bridge, Bath

Set in the heart of Prior Park in Bath, the Palladian Bridge is the ultimate ‘sweet-spot’ for proposals in the South of England. The Bridge itself is the best place for the question, but once he or she has said yes there’s a wealth of history in the town itself that will keep you entertained for the rest of the trip.

North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Yorkshire

As one of the best preserved railways in Britain, The NYMR takes you on a unique journey through the north of Yorkshire and offers a truly romantic setting for a proposal. The trains themselves are a testament to human ingenuity and so should be your elaborate proposal.

The Fountain of Love, Berkshire

Already a popular honeymoon destination (see that as a good sign), Cliveden House – near where the fountain is situated – has a history of romance. Take a champagne cruise down the Thames and when you arrive at the aptly named fountain of love, ask the one you love for their hand.

Hot Air Balloon, East Sussex

It’s already well-known that the South Downs are truly a sight to behold, so just imagine the magnificence of this landscape while viewing it from a soaring hot-air balloon. Proposing to your significant other while the adrenaline is flowing is sure to result in a ‘yes’. The views from the air in the South Downs could even rival hot air balloon in Cappadocia!

In a Yurt, Cornwall

Cornwall in all its beauty, has many hidden and as yet undiscovered treasures. One way to get the chance to explore this for yourself is to rent a Yurt. A Yurt is a wooden structure that is traditionally used by nomads but has been adapted here for more modern needs. A night spent in the warmth of a Yurt in the midst of nature’s beauty is another perfect location for a proposal.

Somewhere Personal

While all these options are fantastic, there’s no better place to propose than somewhere that’s personal to you both – perhaps the place you first met or where you went on your first date. Wherever you do it, it’s going to be a memorable and treasured day.

For me, my partner’s dream was to go to Bora Bora, so I surprised her and proposed there. But if you met, or live, in the UK – then I’m sure you can think of a special place that you both hold dear. And that will undoubtedly be the best place to propose in the UK, for you guys, too.
