Egyptian mythology is all about fascinating stories, awe-inspiring characters, spectral creatures, and much more. The different myths never fail to astound us, and when gaming is clubbed with something like this, so unearthly, magic happens. The gaming companies are reaping the benefits of Egyptian mythology and creating wonderful games that take gamers to a fantastical world of gaming experience.
Popular Egyptian themed games have come a long way starting from Kid Icarus, which was a sensational game in the eighties to the recent heart-throb like Hades. Everything about Egyptian mythology is enveloped in mysticism and grandeur.
Here we will talk about 6 popular video games that are inspired by Egyptian mythology.
1. Egyptian Senet
This popular board game was made into a video game in 2013 by Ezzat Studios, an Indie developer. The game represents the Egyptian afterlife according to what is written in the Book of the dead. In this game, the aim is to finally reach the space by leaving the board. It is symbolic of the Egyptian belief that states that the soul leaves the afterlife for rebirth. The game is interesting because it showcases the cycle of life, death, and the afterlife according to Egyptian belief.
2. Honorable mention: In the valley of Gods
This is an adventure game that is perfect for a first-person experience. Currently, the game is buttoned up, and the players are waiting for new surprises about the mythological references that this game might introduce. In this game, we can see a disgraced archeologist, in 1920s Egypt, discovering the mystical aspects of ancient Egyptian civilization, the tombs, and more.
3. Civilization V
This game is based on eighteen different civilizations but, the best one is the Egyptian part which is led by Ramesses 2. The gamers are supposed to defeat the all-comers with the help of the Egyptian army and the huge financial support from the bank vaults. Gamers love this one because it depicts the civilization, culture, life, and death during the reign of famous kings. The game is the brainchild of industry behemoth Firaxis Games.
4. Book of Dead Slot
Thinking of slot games? How can you ignore this one? A precious production, the masterstroke of Novomatic. The hero Rich Wilde is seen to embark on a quest to get the ancient Book of the dead. The game has earned much appreciation throughout.
5. Assassin’s Creed origin
The masterful creation of The Assassin’s Creed Origin franchise takes us back to the Ptolemaic period when Cleopatra used to be the most-wanted gem. There is a whole DLC that is meant exclusively to show Egyptian mythology. In this game the players fight various mythological creatures; they also travel to the afterlife. Overall, the game takes us to a whole new level of fantasy blended smoothly with mythology.
6. Pharaonic
The developers have aimed at developing a game where an adventurer tries to unveil the secrets of Ahmosis I, the Red Pharaoh. In this game, you will face several challenges such as fighting the pharaoh’s army; there are innumerable traps, mythical beasts, and more. The game is an amalgamation of classic hack-and-slash features along with a somewhat old-fashioned kind of conventional arcade game.
