Rome is a vibrant city in Italy which is popular primarily because it’s rich cultural and historic heritage. The new and the old mingle together to make up what Rome is at the present time.

Compare flights with Momondo and start planning your trip with the right foot. Then prepare a checklist of things to do, including the following must-see:

1)     Join the Pope’s audience in Vatican. When Rome is mentioned people immediately think about the seat of the Catholic faith. If you are in Rome, it would be a thrilling experience to take the time to join the pope’s audience on Wednesday mornings. Weather permitting, the pope’s general audience is held in St. Peter’s Square, if not, it takes place in the audience hall in Sala Nervi. After the audience, you can explore Vatican, the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museum.

2)     Indulge Your Sweet Tooth in Cioccolata e Vino. Rome is not only a parcel of history; it is also one of the best places to indulge in one of the most sinful treats: chocolate. This half bar half shop is a double temptation because it has a wide array of gastronomic treats. Indeed the coffee and the handmade chocolates are sensational.

3)     Explore Galleria Borghese. Visiting the Galleria Borghese is enlightening. Compact Italian aesthetics and antiquities from Renaissance to Early Baroque can all be found in the 20 rooms of this 17th-century villa. You can also scrutinize the Bernini sculptures from all angles.

4)     Dig into standup pizza. Rome is filled with pizzerie al taglia, that is, pizza which is sold by slice. All you have to do is nod your approval as to the width of the serving. You can even ask for smaller portions and more varieties – you must try this Italian delicatessen.

5)     Take a Quick Trip to Gianicolo. One of the best places to experience what Rome has to offer is on Giancolo, a hill outside the ancient city. Located just above the Trastevere and the Vatican, the panoramic view will indulge your senses while you can jaunt through Italy’s 19th-century wars. The pathway in Giancolo is lined with busts of its heroes allowing you to review your knowledge of Italian history.

6)     Revisit the age of Gladiators at the Colosseum. This Flavian amphitheatre is a monument of feats strength and the battle between wild animals, gladiators, prisoners and slaves. With a capacity for seating fifty thousand people, the Colosseum is deemed as the most glorious place for mass slaughter. For history buffs, this is the first point of interest in this city followed by the Forum, the Domus Arena and the Pantheon.

7)     Go shopping. Modern day clothes are available in various shops in Rome. Independent designers in the city come in boutique clusters such as Le Tartarughe which features unique yet easy to wear clothes, Arsenale, the Bohemian chic’s boutique and La Gallinelle for clothes with vintage threads. If you are an avid collector of antiques, the fair for vintage items usually take place from May to October and your best shopping places include via Guilia and via del Babuino.
