Most of the big cities around the world have their own professional sports teams and a huge loyal fan base that follows them. However, there is something about some travel destinations that is a bit more tuned for sports enthusiasts. Some cities are more driven by sports culture than others. On top of that, some cities have a rich tradition of sport with generations of fans that make the sport bigger and more exciting, like some of footballs biggest derbies.

Apart from the beautiful scenery, Rio is a sporting nation where you can see traces of sporting activities, especially soccer, everywhere you look. Their national soccer team holds one of the biggest stars that the world has ever seen and managed to win five World Cups. You should visit the historic ground of Maracanã, which held the 2014 Final between Germany, one of the most visited countries in the world no less, and Argentina and many other historical games.
If you are not a soccer fan, then you’ll find beach volleyball as the second most popular sport among amateur players. There are not too many sporting monuments or places to visit, but the rich culture about atheism makes Rio the perfect destination for every sports enthusiast.
