If you’re looking for an affordable getaway vacation option with a difference then why not try a mini cruise. Taking a cruise over a weekend or four days will give you a taste of the full cruise ship holiday experience while allowing you to visit some new destinations and – crucially – not putting yourself out of pocket!

The cruise ship vacation experience

Over 20 million people now take cruise ship holidays each year and mini cruises are  one of the most popular sailing options. Cruise ships are now similar to floating hotels and provide a range of accommodation to suit your taste and budget. On-board facilities will usually include swimming pools, spas, cinemas, casinos and shopping options as well as a range of restaurants and bars. Families are well catered with children’s clubs and entertainment as well as qualified child-minders for parents who wish to spend some time together alone.

Choose your destination

Most cruise lines will offer mini cruises ranging from one to five nights. The choice of destinations available will depend on where you are departing from and how many nights on-board you are booking for. Popular short cruises include multiple destination trips in regions like the Mediterranean. For example, a four day cruise from Barcelona can include stops at cultural highlights such as Nice, Florence and Pisa. Further afield, there is a huge range of mini cruise options available including the Caribbean Islands, the fjords of Norway, the Greek Islands and east and west coast American cruises.

An affordable short break option

For those on a budget, mini cruises are a very affordable option. Many of the cruise line operators allow travellers to upgrade to an all inclusive option and this means that all on-board food and selected drinks are included in the price. The on-board accommodation will vary in price depending on the type of cabin but accommodation will usually vary from double cabins with en-suite facilities to luxury suites with balconies and even steam rooms. If you’re looking for an exciting short break option or deciding whether a cruise holiday is for you then a few days on a mini cruise could be a good taster option.
