Morocco is a very interesting place to visit. With beaches along both the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, it is safe to call Morocco a beach goer’s heaven. Beach towns like Agadir on the South Atlantic Coast and Casablanca in the North attract beach goers from around the world – private transfers at Casablanca are easy to pick up so make sure you get one. However, not everyone is a beach person, and Morocco offers its fair share of entertainment outside of the relaxing beaches that boarder the Ocean and Sea.
If your idea of fun is having your adrenalin pumping, getting dirty or saying goodbye to the civilized world you will want to check out the off-road tours offered in Morocco. There are many tours to accommodate your needs. Some will take you around the shore lines for amazing ocean views; others will take you deep into the desert to navigate the sandy dunes.
1. Long Adventure
Red Sky offers a variety of off-road tours to choose from. Select the duration you would like your tour to be as they offer tours as short as 2 days and 1 night to as long as 6 days a 5 nights. Each 4×4 adventure offers a different duration and different destination. Staying in Morocco for a while and want to have a super action packed adventure? Book the All the Dunes tour! You will be on the move for 6 days and 5 nights and your adventure will begin in Marrakech. You will travel through the High Atlas Mountains and over the famous Tizi n’Tichka pass. You will end up in Dades where the night will be spent. From there you will make your way to Merzouga, then Zagora, Cheggaga and Ouarzate before ending up back in Marrakesh.
2. Short Adventure
If you do not have that amount of time on your hands you will want to check out their 2 day 1 night tour also offered by Red Sky. You will still tour through the High Atlas Mountains and over the Tizi n’Tichka pass. On day one you will visit Ait Benhaddou and see the amazing architecture. After this your tour will take you to Zafora where you will ride camel back for about an hour to your sleeping destination under the stars. The next day the tour will take you travel along the Draa Valley which will present you with many scenic photo opportunities. Your tour will conclude where it began in Marrakesh.
3. Day Adventure
If you are looking for more of a one and done kind of tour you will want to check out the Draa Valley Tour offered by Travel Exploration. The tour leaves from Ouarzazate around 9am and does not return until about 6pm, so make sure to get the proper rest the night before. On this tour you will travel off-road into the Draa Valley to explore the volcanic rock and picturesque landscapes along with following the old routes of the caravans.
However, tours are not for everyone. If you are the independent type and prefer hiring or renting an off-road vehicle and exploring Morocco alone there are some things you need to consider. First, the type off off-road vehicle you should rent. In American Jeeps are one of the best off-road vehicles and suggested for most off-road excursions. However, if you are renting a Jeep, consider checking for these simple modifications provided by Extreme Terrain that will increase the vehicles off-road driving ability. Getting stuck off-road outside of civilization is never a good feeling especially when in a foreign country.
No matter what your vice is a trip to Morocco can provide you with it. From cultural experiences to historical ones and with its fair share of relaxing and exciting adventures in the mix, Morocco is a place to add to your bucket list.
