Bangkok is my home and one of my favourite cities on the entire planet, it is so lively and it is somewhere that every traveler should visit at least once. I wrote this article to show you some of the most amazing things about it and why Bangkok is one of the best cities to visit in the world.

Wat Arun

This is my favourite site of Bangkok and it really is one of the most picturesque temples in all of Thailand with its Khmer style architecture. The name actually means the temple of dawn and it lies on the Chao Phraya river which gives it an extremely stunning foreground. The spires of the tower are colourful and absolutely glow during the sunrise or sunset. You can visit the temple itself or simply marvel in the glory of it from the other side of the river or in a boat! My hotel in Bangkok on my last stay was very close to Wat Arun and I was able to go there every day to see the sunset!

The Grand Palace

The Grand Palace has been the home of the Thai kings for about 150 years and is one of the most spectacular building complexes in the country. The most amazing sight is within the Wat Phra or Temple of the Emerald Buddha, is the stunning Buddha that has been carved out of jade (not emerald as the name suggests). This carved statue dates back to the 14th century and the robes that it wears are changed at the beginning of a near season. The Grand Palace is simply a place that you must visit and explore.

Damnoen Saduak

This is the best known and of course, the best of the floating markets in Bangkok. The marketplace provides a lively and busy atmosphere, and is totally unique with dozens of long wood boats. Each boat has its own wares, such as vegetables, drinks, fruit or even floating restaurants! I love to visit the floating markets for the colour and buzz that you get from being in a style of market that I doubt you have experienced before.

Wat Pho

This very interesting place is famous for its huge, golden, reclining Buddha, but there is so much more to this place than that. Wat Pho is home to a rich collection that includes sculptures, inscriptions and murals. The huge temple complex is a great place to explore and I would highly recommend taking some time to wander around. You can see a beautiful landscaped garden and get one of the best massages in Thailand here.
