Sheraton Hotel Mendoza Review

I arrived at the Sheraton Hotel in central Mendoza as the first stop in a trip that would include me attempting South America’s biggest peak, Aconcagua, one of the fabled seven summits. I was understandably exhausted and nervous after a lengthy journey, but the staff at the reception desk at the Sheraton couldn’t have made my check in experience more enjoyable and quick, putting me at ease and allowing me to get into my room to just relax and unwind quickly. And $100 for 5* luxury? That’s why this is a glowing Sheraton hotel mendoza review!

I found they were incredibly courteous, helpful and made the whole checking in experience a lot smoother than in other hotels I’ve stayed at. I definitely give the staff at reception 5/5 as for the whole duration of my stay they couldn’t have been more fantastic.

About reception in general, as soon as I entered the hotel I was certain I was in for a treat choosing the Sheraton in Mendoza for my stay. The whole area was meticulously clean and decorated with real class and style with an array of different colours that blend perfectly together with the greenery and artwork they’d chosen to display.

Rooms

Everyone I was travelling with who stayed at the Sheraton were impressed with their rooms, regardless of whether they stayed in suites, standards or deluxe rooms. Each room we had assigned was fantastically appointed with really chic, modern decor and was spotlessly clean. If you ask the reception staff for a specific view they will do their best to accommodate your preferences – with either city or mountain views available. I have to say that both are fantastic views and it’s hard to pick, but seeing the Andes when you wake up every morning does have a certain magic about it.

The bathrooms were absolutely the cleanest I’ve ever seen in a hotel chain with a good array of toiletries left for your convenience as well as an assortment of clean, crisp towels. The bathroom was one of my favourite parts of the whole experience as it was decorated in calming, modern colours with impressive water pressure and non-stop hot water.

Fitness

Being the fitness buff I am – plus planning on mountain climbing – I took advantage of the Sheraton’s on site fitness facility and I was highly impressed. With state of the art, high quality equipment to use, much of which overlooks the hotel’s beautiful indoor pool, I was in my element. I didn’t take advantage of their complimentary classes, but for someone who might have stayed longer, having different exercise classes on site would have been a bonus for sure.

Spa and Casino

The hotel has an impressive spa on site with a whole host of treatments including various massages and treatments which are perfect after a long day of hiking in the Andes, walking around town or generally just because you want one. Not only does the spa have an excellent lounge where you can order drinks and whatnot, but it also has its own deck overlooking Mendoza where you can relax either in the sunshine or watch the sunset with a glass of your favourite Argentinian wine.

The treatments here are fantastic – I had a massage during my stay and I have to say that the staff were polite and friendly and knew exactly what they were doing. If you come to the Sheraton Mendoza, you definitely need to check out their amazing menu of different treatments – you will be sure to find something that suits you and your needs.

There’s a casino on site, and while I didn’t use it, I did walk through it just to have a look and it’s a high class, quality casino with everything you’d expect from a good casino with numerous games from roulette to popular table games such as craps and blackjack. If I had stayed longer I might have indulged myself in a game or two, but I was pressed for time most days and ended up spending my evenings in the lounge.

Wine

By far I have to say that the Sheraton Mendoza is one of the best places in the city for enjoying wine with friends. With three separate restaurants/bars in the hotel itself that serve alcohol, you will have no trouble finding yourself a glass or three of some of the region’s most superb wines. They even have their own wine cellar you can visit known as the Malbec Cava Room which is a great way to learn more about different wines as well as sample some of their own reserves.

I had more than my share of delicious wines from around Argentina in the lounge and restaurants during my time at the Sheraton Mendoza. It’s just too easy to sip gorgeous Malbec wines while overlooking the city and the Andes from the likes of the Mirador Lounge. The huge windows make for fantastic views over a glass or three of the finest wines and a meal or snacks with friends after a long day of exploring the city. This was probably my most enjoyable experience at the Sheraton, as their welcoming lounges and restaurants are comfortable, stylish and you can easily find yourself spending hours just ordering different wines to try.

Food and Dining

The meals at the Sheraton Mendoza are, without a doubt, some of the finest in the city. They cater to almost all tastes and preferences and they really go out of their way when it comes to preparation and presentation. The Argentinian steak was well worth the price, and with a glass of red Malbec it was even better. Their American style breakfast was decent and hearty with the usual trimmings of bacon and eggs with toast and jam. The coffee was to die for and you could have it in most different styles such as Americano or Cappuccino. They have three types of breakfast as well, but given I’m quite active I opted for the American breakfast each morning during my stay. There are also the options of continental or buffet breakfast which looked amazing with a lot of different dishes including fruit and yogurt as well.

Overall my stay at this particular location of Sheraton hotels couldn’t have been better. From now on whenever I come to Mendoza, I’ll definitely be staying at the Sheraton. Whether you’re there for business or leisure, the facilities available as well as the friendliness of the staff can’t be beat. Add to this their collection of fantastic restaurants on site as well as their spa, pool and fitness room along with the casino and it’s probably one of the best, most well equipped hotels I’ve ever stayed in. I’ll definitely be back.
