My Devasom Khao Lak Review: The Best Luxury Resort in Khao Lak
I’ve lived in Thailand for almost twenty years now, and during that time I’ve stayed in more hotels than I could ever count. Some were incredible, some were terrible, and most sat somewhere in the middle. That’s especially true when it comes to luxury hotels. Once you’ve stayed in enough five-star properties, they can start to blur into one. Nice lobby. Nice pool. Nice room. Nice breakfast. Repeat.
Every now and then though, a hotel manages to stand out.
That’s exactly what happened when I visited Devasom Khao Lak.
I was actually late to discovering Khao Lak. Despite spending years living in Thailand, I always tended to fly in and out of Phuket without giving much thought to what was happening just up the coast. During COVID, when international travel became impossible, I started exploring Thailand more seriously. I visited places I’d overlooked for years, and Khao Lak quickly became one of my favourite destinations in the country.
Part of that was the destination itself. The other part was Devasom.

Why Stay at Devasom Khao Lak?
What struck me immediately about Devasom was that it doesn’t feel like a chain hotel. In fact, that’s probably the highest compliment I can give it.
The resort is family-owned and it shows. There’s a warmth to the place that’s often missing in larger luxury properties. The staff remember your name. The service feels genuine rather than scripted. Instead of feeling like you’re being processed through a five-star machine, you feel like you’re staying somewhere that people genuinely care about.
That matters more than most travellers realise.
Luxury isn’t just about thread counts and marble bathrooms. It’s about how a place makes you feel. Some hotels can spend hundreds of millions building beautiful facilities but still somehow feel soulless. Devasom manages to avoid that trap completely.
The whole resort feels intimate, relaxed and authentic. It’s luxury without being pretentious.

Location
Location is probably Devasom’s greatest strength.
Khao Lak itself sits about ninety minutes north of Phuket Airport, which immediately removes one of my biggest complaints about Phuket: the crowds.
What I love about Khao Lak is that it feels like Thailand used to feel. Long beaches. Fewer tourists. Less development. More nature. More space.
The Devasom team also managed to secure one of the best pieces of beachfront land in the entire area. The resort sits between tropical forest and a huge stretch of golden sand, giving the whole place a very secluded feel.
One of my favourite parts of the day was simply walking along the beach in the morning before breakfast. No jet skis. No beach clubs blasting music. No crowds fighting for sunbeds. Just the ocean and the sound of the waves.
If you’re choosing between Phuket and Khao Lak, I would pick Khao Lak every time. And if you’re choosing where to stay in Khao Lak, the location alone makes a very strong case for Devasom.

Rooms & Suites
The rooms were another pleasant surprise.
I started my stay in one room category and later had the opportunity to move into one of the higher-end room types. Both were excellent, but if your budget allows it, I would definitely recommend stretching for one of the Seaside Pool Paradise rooms.
The views alone justify the upgrade.
There’s something special about waking up and immediately seeing the ocean from your bed. Add a private pool, a huge bathroom and a beautiful outdoor space and you suddenly find yourself looking for excuses not to leave your room.
The design throughout the resort is elegant without trying too hard. That’s harder to achieve than it sounds. A lot of luxury hotels either feel cold and modern or overly traditional. Devasom manages to find a nice balance between the two.
Everything feels comfortable. Nothing feels forced. That’s probably why I enjoyed the rooms so much.

How Much Does Devasom Khao Lak Cost?
One thing I think people often get wrong about luxury travel is assuming the most expensive option is automatically the best.
I’ve stayed in hotels costing over $1,000 a night that left me completely underwhelmed. I’ve also stayed in hotels costing a fraction of that which delivered a far better overall experience.
Devasom sits somewhere in the sweet spot.
Depending on the season and room category, you can generally expect prices to start from around 7,000 to 10,000 baht per night, with the larger suites, pool rooms and villas increasing from there. Peak season naturally commands higher prices, while shoulder season can offer some excellent value.
What impressed me wasn’t that the resort was cheap. It isn’t cheap.
What impressed me was the value.
When I compare what I paid against the quality of the resort, the service, the location and the overall experience, it felt like money well spent. That’s not something I say about every luxury property.
Restaurants & Dining
Food is always important to me when I travel.
I’m vegetarian, which often makes luxury hotel dining surprisingly frustrating. Plenty of hotels can produce beautiful-looking menus, but when it comes to vegetarian options, things often become pretty limited.
Thankfully, that wasn’t the case here.
Breakfast every morning was excellent, with plenty of variety and enough options that I never felt like I was eating the same thing every day. The quality was consistently high, and the setting overlooking the beach certainly didn’t hurt.
The restaurants themselves are beautifully positioned throughout the property, but the beachfront dining experience was the standout for me. Sitting by the ocean with a drink as the sun disappears into the Andaman Sea is one of those simple travel experiences that never gets old.
And yes, I have to mention the pizza.
I know it sounds ridiculous to highlight pizza in a review of a luxury Thai resort, but we became slightly obsessed with it during our stay. We ordered it more than once, which probably tells you everything you need to know.
Facilities & Experiences

One thing I liked about Devasom was that it doesn’t try to overwhelm you with facilities.
The resort has everything you need. A beautiful infinity pool, direct beach access, an excellent spa, a good gym and plenty of activities. But it doesn’t feel like they’re trying to distract you with endless entertainment.
The star of the show remains the setting itself.
The pool is beautiful, but the beach is even better.
The spa was one of the highlights of my stay and exactly what you want after spending days exploring Khao Lak, Phang Nga Bay or Khao Sok National Park.
The concierge team can also organise pretty much any activity you might want in the area, from island-hopping trips to snorkelling excursions and private transfers.
Devasom Khao Lak for Couples and Families
When I first stayed at Devasom, I wasn’t travelling with a child. Now that I have a son, I often look at hotels through a completely different lens.
What I like about Devasom is that it works for both.
If you’re travelling as a couple, it’s incredibly romantic. The beachfront setting, the private pools, the sunsets and the atmosphere all make it an ideal honeymoon or anniversary destination.
At the same time, it works surprisingly well for families. The grounds are spacious, the staff are welcoming and the beach provides endless entertainment for kids. Importantly, it manages this without feeling like a family resort.
Nobody wants to spend a luxury holiday surrounded by screaming children.
Devasom finds a good balance.

What Is There To Do Near Devasom Khao Lak?
One of the biggest advantages of staying in Khao Lak is that you’re surrounded by some of the best natural attractions in Thailand.
The Similan Islands are famous for a reason and are easily accessible from the resort. The Surin Islands are equally spectacular if you’re interested in snorkelling or diving.
Khao Sok National Park is one of my favourite places in the entire country and makes an incredible day trip. The same goes for Cheow Lan Lake, which feels more like something you’d expect to find in New Zealand than Thailand.
Then there’s Phang Nga Bay, James Bond Island and dozens of smaller attractions scattered throughout the region.
The beauty of Devasom is that you can spend your mornings exploring and your afternoons back at the resort by the pool with a cold drink in hand.

Is Devasom Khao Lak Worth It?
Absolutely.
I’ve now travelled to every country in the world and stayed in some genuinely incredible hotels along the way. That doesn’t make my opinion more important than anyone else’s, but it does mean I’ve got a lot of hotels to compare against.
Devasom Khao Lak remains one of my favourite resort stays in Thailand.
Not because it’s the biggest hotel. Not because it’s the most expensive. Not because it’s the flashiest.
Because everything works.
The location is fantastic. The rooms are beautiful. The service feels personal. The food is excellent. The atmosphere is exactly what people imagine when they dream about escaping to a tropical beach in Thailand.
Most importantly, it’s the kind of place that makes you genuinely sad to leave.

Final Thoughts
Khao Lak was one of the biggest surprises I’ve had in Thailand, and Devasom was one of the biggest surprises I’ve had in Khao Lak.
If you’re looking for a luxury resort that combines beautiful surroundings, excellent service and a genuinely relaxing atmosphere, I don’t think you’ll do much better.
I’ve stayed in plenty of places that cost more. Very few delivered more.
That’s probably the strongest recommendation I can give.
