Devasom Hua Hin Review; A little Luxury in Hua Hin

Hua Hin is one of the easiest beach escapes from Bangkok. It is only around three hours away by car, so Jaa, Aidan and I could leave Bangkok in the morning and be beside the sea by lunchtime. No airports, no flights and none of the usual travel nonsense!

And yes, Pattaya is technically closer, but I find it sleazy, dirty and completely lacking in charm. Hua Hin is a far better getaway for couples and families. It has beaches, brilliant seafood, night markets, wineries and genuinely beautiful hotels, without Pattaya’s chaos.

I chose Devasom Hua Hin because I had already stayed at their Khao Lak property, and honestly, it was epic (I blogged that too). Properly epic. The Khao Lak resort had set the bar ridiculously high, so when Jaa, Aidan and I planned our Hua Hin trip, I wanted to see whether its smaller beachfront sister could compete.

First Impressions of Devasom Hua Hin

Devasom Hua Hin is a small luxury resort on the beach between Cha-am and Hua Hin. And when I say small, I mean that as a compliment.

There are no enormous hotel blocks, crowded breakfast rooms or hundreds of people fighting for sunbeds. It feels intimate and peaceful, which was exactly what Jaa, Aidan and I wanted after escaping the chaos of Bangkok.

The design is gorgeous. It has this old-fashioned Thai colonial feel, with white wooden buildings, tiled roofs, antique-style furniture and loads of little details that give the resort some actual character.

A lot of luxury hotels feel as if they could be anywhere in the world. Change the sign outside and you would have no bloody idea whether you were in Thailand, Dubai or Spain. Devasom does not have that problem. It feels unmistakably Thai and completely suited to Hua Hin.

Our Room at Devasom Hua Hin

The rooms at Devasom are spacious, especially compared with the standard boxes you often get in modern hotels.

There was enough room for Jaa, Aidan and me without it feeling as if we were constantly climbing over luggage or each other. That matters when you are travelling as a family. A romantic little boutique room might look good on Instagram, but it becomes considerably less romantic when bags, toys and everyone’s stuff take over the floor.

The style continues inside the rooms, with wooden furniture, traditional details and a much warmer atmosphere than the generic beige design used by most hotel chains.

The larger suites and villas come with terraces and sea views. If your budget allows it, I would pay extra for a room facing the water. Waking up beside the sea is a major part of the experience here.

The Pool and Beach

The location is probably Devasom Hua Hin’s biggest selling point. The resort is directly on the beach, with the swimming pool positioned between the rooms and the sea.

That compact layout worked brilliantly for us. Jaa and I could relax without turning every trip to the beach into a full military operation, and Aidan had both the pool and the sand within easy reach.

The pool is not some enormous waterpark-style setup. It is calm, attractive and faces the sea. That suits the whole atmosphere of Devasom. You come here to slow down, swim, eat well and spend time together.

The beach is literally outside the resort. No roads to cross, no taxis and no carrying half your belongings for twenty minutes. You leave the property and you are on the sand.

Hua Hin’s beaches are not going to compete with the best islands in southern Thailand. Let’s be honest about that. But for somewhere you can reach from Bangkok without taking another flight, it is a damn good option.

Is Devasom Hua Hin Good for Families?

Yes, but it depends on what type of family resort you want.

Devasom is not a massive resort with waterslides, mascots, twenty organised activities and a kids’ club running all day. If that is what your children need, this probably is not the right hotel.

For us, it worked. Jaa and I wanted somewhere beautiful and peaceful, while Aidan had the beach, the swimming pool and enough space to enjoy himself. We could spend time together without being surrounded by the noise and chaos of a huge family resort.

The rooms are spacious, there is a children’s pool and the resort is small enough that getting around is easy. You are not spending fifteen minutes walking from your room to breakfast with Aidan asking whether you are there yet.

So yes, Devasom Hua Hin is good for families. It is particularly good for families who enjoy travelling together and do not need someone else entertaining their children every minute of the day.

Food at Devasom Hua Hin

We ate dinner at the resort on our first night. After travelling from Bangkok with Jaa and Aidan, the last thing I wanted was to check in and immediately start organising another taxi into Hua Hin.

The restaurant serves Thai and Western food, so finding something for everyone is straightforward. The setting beside the sea makes dinner feel like part of the stay rather than something you are doing purely because you need to eat.

Breakfast was similarly relaxed. That might sound like a small detail, but crowded buffet breakfasts can be an absolute pain in the arse when travelling with a family. Devasom’s smaller size keeps the whole experience calmer.

I would still recommend leaving the resort for at least one evening. Hua Hin has excellent local seafood, and we went to Sak Seafood on our second night. But eating at Devasom on the first evening was the right call for Jaa, Aidan and me.

The Location

Devasom Hua Hin is located between Cha-am and central Hua Hin. That gives you a peaceful beachfront setting, but there is a trade-off.

You cannot simply walk out of the resort and straight into Hua Hin Night Market. You will need a car or taxi for the town centre, Cicada Market, Monsoon Valley and most of Hua Hin’s main attractions. We did car rental ($20 a day or so).

For me, that was not a major problem. We were there to escape the city, and Jaa, Aidan and I preferred being somewhere calm rather than sleeping beside Hua Hin’s busiest streets.

Just plan your transport properly. If your dream holiday involves walking to bars and restaurants every night, stay in central Hua Hin. If you want quiet mornings, a beachfront pool and a more relaxed atmosphere, Devasom’s location is a strength.

How Much Does Devasom Hua Hin Cost?

Rooms can start from around ฿3,500 per night during cheaper periods, although prices change depending on the season, availability and room category.

The suites and beachfront villas cost considerably more, particularly during weekends and holidays. Devasom is a luxury resort, so this is not supposed to be a backpacker bargain.

That said, it can offer good value compared with the enormous international resorts around Hua Hin. You are paying for the beachfront location, spacious rooms, distinctive design and the fact that the hotel feels personal rather than mass-produced.

One Thing I Didn’t Like

I gotta be honest, sorry! But there is no gym. Noooooo! That is the one thing that genuinely annoyed me. For a luxury hotel at this price level, not having even a small gym feels like an obvious omission. I train regularly, so travelling with Jaa and Aidan does not suddenly mean I want to stop exercising. Even a simple room with a treadmill, a bench and some dumbbells would solve the problem.

If you do not care about training on holiday, you will not give one you-know-what. But if fitness is part of your daily routine, it is worth knowing before you book. That being said, I just went for runs on the beach, and that was gorgeous too!

Devasom Hua Hin vs Devasom Khao Lak

The two resorts share the same attention to design, service and atmosphere, but they are different experiences.

Devasom Khao Lak is the bigger, more complete resort experience. That property was epic, and it remains one of my favourite resort stays in Thailand.

Devasom Hua Hin feels smaller and more intimate. It is better suited to a short escape from Bangkok, particularly when you are travelling with Jaa and Aidan and do not want to add flights, airports and another full day of travelling.

Khao Lak wins for the complete tropical holiday. Hua Hin wins for convenience and an easy luxury weekend.

My Final Devasom Hua Hin Review

Would I return to Devasom Hua Hin? Yes.

It looks beautiful, sits directly on the beach and feels considerably more personal than the huge chain resorts nearby. Jaa and I could actually relax, Aidan had the beach and pool, and the smaller layout made the entire stay easy.

It is best for couples and families who want somewhere peaceful, stylish and luxurious. It is not the right choice for people wanting nightlife outside the door, a huge kids’ club or, annoyingly, a gym.

The lack of a gym is a genuine weakness. The location also means organising taxis whenever you want to visit central Hua Hin. Neither issue ruined the stay, but both are worth knowing.

Overall, Devasom Hua Hin delivered what I wanted. It gave Jaa, Aidan and me an easy beachfront escape from Bangkok, without flights or unnecessary travel drama. And after loving Devasom Khao Lak, I am happy to say the Hua Hin property did not let the brand down.
