How to choose the perfect walking holiday for you
Over the years, walking holidays have become more and more popular. They combine a sense of adventure with spending quality time with the ones you love. When away, you’ll get countless hours to catch up and be distraction-free, with no technology pulling you away from a conversation. This allows you to go on a deeper level, whilst also getting to see countless stunning landscapes.
When choosing the perfect walking holiday for you, there are several considerations to think about. You should take into account your experience with hiking, your fitness levels and how long you are willing to go for – trips can be a couple of days to two weeks! You should also think about what you want to see on your walking holiday and the time of the year you are going to travel.
To help get you thinking, we have put together a quick guide on how to choose the perfect walking holiday for you.
Your fitness levels
Most walking holidays are accessible to all levels, but some are harder than others. Some require a higher level of fitness, as you may be taking on more difficult terrains. When looking into the different walks, make sure you look into the distance you will be travelling and the terrains you will be taking on. Most will have a difficulty level, which you can take into consideration.
How long would you like to go for?
This one is pretty simple: how long would you like to go for when going on your breakaway? If you are an experienced hiker, then you may want to go longer than someone who hasn’t hiked much at all in the past. Think about whether a short, three-day escape suits you better, or if you’re ready to commit to a week or even two on the route. The duration makes a big difference to your energy levels, the destinations you can cover, and how much you get out of the experience.
What time of year would you prefer?
Walking holidays take place all year round. This means you could be hiking in various weather conditions, which could affect the decision of when you are going to go. You should take into account the heat, as walking in too hot conditions can be uncomfortable for some people. You should also take into account the cold, as when it’s raining, this can be miserable. What’s best is to decide on a couple of places you would like to go on your walking holiday, and then look at when the weather is optimum online.
Walking holidays are great fun, and we know that once you have been on one, you will be hooked and want to go on another. When are you planning on going on a walking holiday, and where are you thinking of going? Will you be staying in Europe or going further afield? What considerations would you suggest to someone choosing their perfect walking holiday? Let us know in the comment box below. We look forward to hearing from you.

As you know, blogging changed my life. I left Ireland broke, with no plan, with just a one-way ticket to Thailand
and no money. Since then, I started a blog, then a digital media company, I've made
more than $1,500,000 USD, bought 4 properties and visited (almost) every country in the world. And I did it all from my laptop as I
travel the world and live my dream. I talk about how I did it, and how you can do it too, in my COMPLETELY FREE
Ebook, all 20,000
words or so. Just finish the process by putting in your email below and I'll mail it right out to you immediately. No spam ever too, I promise!
