5 Tips to Create a Successful Blogging Strategy
Did you know that 91% of business-to-business marketers say their companies engage in blogging or leverage other types of content marketing?
Whether you want to start a blog for business or personal reasons, you need to be consistent to succeed over the long term. It’s not one of those things that will gain traction overnight. You need to know what to do, how to do it, and how often to do it.
That’s why a blogging strategy is essential. Keep reading for five tips to create a successful blogging strategy.
Table of contents
1. Understand Your Audience
Your first order of business is to understand your audience. What is your target demographic? What are their pain points? How can you help them alleviate their pain points? What is your company’s value proposition, and why is your business better than the competition? You won’t be able to answer these questions adequately if you don’t know your ideal customer profile. The only way you can create the right content is if you know your target market.
2. Develop Content Strategy
The next step is to develop a content strategy for your blog. Doing this successfully means understanding what your audience is looking for. If you’re a roofing company, for instance, your content strategy might start with producing content around the following topics:
- The importance of a roofing system
- How long different roofing systems last
- What to consider when selecting a roofing system
- The importance of getting roofs installed by professionals
- When to know when a roof should be replaced
- Roof maintenance that needs to be done regularly
- Why delaying repairs is a bad decision
The goal is to cover all the bases so your audience gets all the information they need to make informed decisions.
3. Set a Blogging Schedule
It’s also essential to create a blogging schedule. Consistency is important, and it’s the only way to gain more traction with your target demographic. Blogging once in a while is almost like not blogging at all. If you can only muster the energy to do it once daily, that’s not enough either.
Your best bet is to post a blog post at least once every day. More is better. And don’t think that each blog post has to be super long. You can convey a lot of information without having to spend a great deal of time. If you spend time on the previous step — developing a content strategy — you’ll find it easier to develop blog content.
Ensure you engage with readers if they post comments or ask questions after reading your blogs. It should be two-way communication.
4. Promote Your Content
You also need to promote your content on social media. You can extract interesting snippets from your blogs and post them on social media to entice people to go and read entire blog posts. You can also direct people to your site. If you’re consistent about marketing your content on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media platforms, you’ll engage readers and find new readers.
5. Tweak as Necessary
Following the abovementioned steps will help you achieve your goal of creating a successful blog. But don’t be timid about switching things up from time to time. Assess what you’re doing periodically and make whatever changes you think are warranted. For instance, you might decide to revisit your content strategy to either broaden it or narrow it. Soliciting reader feedback is one way to determine how you’re doing and what you might need to change.
