Sorry for being a couple of days late with this – I was stuck on Koh Chang (a beautiful Thai island) for a couple of days longer than expected, I had a great time with some cool people and it sparked an idea about the people in our lives. It’s all about the people….
We can all live the lives we want, we just have to remove the obstacles in our way. Most people think that the main barrier to their dream life is money, and to be frank, that’s just not true. Money comes and goes, and the life you want isn’t about the zeroes in your bank account, it’s about the experiences that they allow you. What good is $100k per year in an expensive country when you only have 20 days holiday? Much better to have $30k in a cheaper (nicer?) country and have 365 days holiday – right? Anyway, my point is that in order to get ourselves back on track we need to forget about money– that will come in time once you live your life with real passion, doing what you’ve always wanted to do, so how do we get to where we wanna be, what changes do we need to make now?
Look around, look at your social group, look at yourself. They might all be awesome dudes and cool chicks but if you’re fed up spending too much time going to the same bar every weekend, same all-inclusive every year in the same resort, you celebrate the same festivals every year, you roughly know the TV schedule before you even check it – then have a look at your buddies, chances are they’re all doing the same thing. Think back 3 years, still in the same place? If you’re no closer to where you want to be you have to change something. Do what you always do and you’ll get what you’ve always got.
Surround yourself with the type of people you want to be. You want positive, proactive, go-getting friends. Forget the haters, leave the negative people to wallow in their own negativity, ignore the people who tell you ‘you can’t’, and if your friends all sit back and wait for life to happen to them – don’t wait around with them. Go out and live your life, do what makes you happy and don’t let anyone hold you back.
I’m not suggesting you cut these people out of your life, but don’t ‘settle’. Don’t settle for the average life, don’t settle for average experiences and don’t settle for average social groups. Live it up and take it all – it’s all there waiting for you to do it. Positivity breeds positivity so seek it out, inspire and be inspired – don’t sit back just because everyone else is. Make the change now, stop being held back – you know you can do it, remove the barriers and get moving, and never look back – the big, wide world is waiting with open arms so enjoy it all. Happy travels.
