Where to Travel in 2017? My plans, and yours!
2016 was a hell of a ride, I had wanted to finish my journey to every country in the world, but I’m (temporarily) stuck on 194/197 while I battle daily for my visas to Yemen and Saudi Arabia and organise a celebration in my last country, NORWAY! I managed to visit 12 new countries in 2016 (Libya, Eritrea , Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Palau Federated States of Micronesia, Marshall islands, Kiribati, Tuvalu, Nauru, Oman and Somalia properly) and looking at my records, I flew 64 times in 2016, that is A LOT of flight so hopefully 2017 I’ll cut that back a bit, I only ever use momondo to book my flights so at least the prices come in relatively cheap, and I almost only ever fly economy too. As my grandmother says, look after the pennies, and the pounds will look after themselves.,
I’ve been checking out a year of travel on momondo’s newest article and it’s got me thinking about my personal plans for 2017. The article talks about some pretty stellar things to do next year, so if you’re struggling for travel inspiration make sure to read it. It’s what got me to write this article, so it’s doing something right. The Asian Winter games in Japan look pretty spectacular and I’d love to be able to go to that, they also chat about the new Ferrari Land in Spain, with Europe’s fastest rollercoaster and a racing track to try your own skills! Their best highlight though? Filming Star Wars VIII in… Ireland! My home! They’ll be filming throughout the year along Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, that’s now definitely in my travel plans for the year!
So I want to lay out my plans for 2017 to increase accountability and also maybe help you guys with a few nudges for travel plans too.
MY PERSONAL TRAVEL PLANS FOR 2017:
January: Have another crack at Yemen and Saudi Arabia
February: If Yemen and Saudi Failed, try again throughout February!
March: FINISH MY COUNTRIES!!! Hopefully will be traveling through Oslo and through the Norwegian Arctic Circle!
April: JOIN ME! Race a tuk-tuk around the north of Sri Lanka with Large Minority, I CANNOT wait for this! Tickets still available too if you wanna join a team!
May: Komodo Dragons and Lombok in Indonesia, I’ll be taking my mum and sister too, brilliant!
June: JOIN ME! GiveBack GiveAway17 – building a playground for the Burmese migrant kids on the Thai/Myanmar border, then 2 weeks trip around Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Sukothai with the group! Soooo much fun.
July: Road trip around Ireland, both the North and the South. Having explored the WHOLE world, I wanna show you guys how beautiful my own country is! A
August/September/October: Around the world in 80 days, with no flights! I wanna traverse the globe by cargo ship, bus, train but no flights! I hope to raise awareness for Parkinsons and raise some money for a charity close to my heart since my mum suffers from Parkinsons x
November: Not confirmed but thinking about another charity project here, perhaps Laos. Watch this space. If not, month in Algeria? Philippines? Thailand tour for my readers? Exciting!
December: Christmas at home, I missed it in 2016 with my trip to India so next year it’s Ireland, and hopefully Christmas markets in Germany too.
So 2017 should be a very busy year, add in building my businesses, growing my blog, buying a new property, and looks like I’ll wait until 2018 for some sleep! I’d LOVE to hear about your travel plans, and I’d love it even more if you can join me on my Sri Lanka tuk-tuk race in May and my charity project in Northern Thailand in June! Let me know in the comments please guys 🙂
