When people think of the Congo, they immediately think of war, famine and serious socio-economic issues. There’s a huge difference between the Republic of Congo and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Republic is a beautiful, welcoming place that anyone should visit for a real taste of African life. Brazzaville, the capital city, is a bustling metropolis with a vibrant nightlife, a number of cafes and restaurants and of course, numerous hotels that range in quality and price.
On my most recent visit to Brazzaville, I stayed in Mikhael’s Hotel – a stunning luxury hotel that really doesn’t skimp on quality or hospitality. My first impression was that it was like something you’d find in New York City or another prominent city like London or Los Angeles, with that posh, special vibe that you want in a luxury hotel. Here’s my firsthand experience of staying in Mikhael’s Hotel.
Rooms
All of the rooms at Mikhael’s are ensuite with modern, beautiful bathrooms that gleam with cleanliness. The whole room itself was extremely clean and well laid out, with lots of space to spread out and get comfortable. The bed was one of the most comfortable I’ve slept in, with crisp white linens and a gorgeously fluffy duvet. The room had a TV with numerous channels so relaxing and catching up on news or just watching for entertainment at the end of a long day of exploring was easy.
There was a desk in the room which made it more comfortable for working or answering emails while on the road. An extremely comfortable chair with footrest was also in the room so reading a paper, book or just simply kicking back and relaxing was easy and enjoyable.
Facilities
The hotel itself is one of the best hotels in the city as far as I could see. With a boutique feel, it has all the amenities of a larger hotel but with a focus on catering to discerning travellers, corporate visitors and more. A VIP lounge is on site for those looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city to work or just relax and read a book, while the on site dining room provided multiple options for all meals as well as snacks and aperatifs.
Mikhael’s pool area is ideal for those who love swimming for sport and exercise or just to cool off after a long day. A bar that offers snacks and cocktails is adjacent to the pool area, and towel service is available, making it feel even more like a luxury hotel.
Other restaurants and bars on site include an executive lounge, VIP bar and two exquisite dining rooms that offer a whole range of healthy, professionally made meals that are presented with an artistic flair. The food on offer at Mikhael’s was some of the best food I’ve had in terms of things you can get at hotels, so if you’re in Brazzaville, I really recommend dining at Mikhael’s hotel.
For those who are coming to Brazzaville for business, Mikhael’s offers conference and meeting facilities as well, making it easy to conduct business without ever leaving the property.
Location
Conveniently located only a kilometer away from the centre of Brazzaville, Mikhael’s is the perfect place for the discerning traveller, for both business and pleasure to stay at during their time in the city. Taxis and public transport nearby make it easy to navigate the city, with many bars, shops and restaurants within walking distance.
Why I Recommend Staying At Mikhael’s
Mikhael’s is an amazing hotel that provides absolutely everything and more that any traveller could possibly need or want in a hotel experience. With the array of facilities and the high level of service on hand, it’s no wonder it’s rated as highly as it is. If you’re looking for the boutique hotel experience without the boutique hotel price, I cannot recommend Mikhael’s strongly enough. They made me feel like I was a part of the family from the moment I arrived to the moment I checked out and ensured I had everything I needed whether it was room service, an extra towel or another glass of wine.
So if you’ve been thinking about checking out Brazzaville and you want that something a bit special during your stay, consider Mikhael’s hotel. It’s definitely a special spot that will make you feel like a valued customer and like a part of the family with ease. It’s one of the best hotel experiences I’ve had during my travels to Africa and it will be hard to top.
