What’s This Trip About?

We start in the tiny, oil-rich kingdom of Brunei, exploring golden domes and hidden rainforest trails. This is one for the country counters, lots of people visit Thailand, Vietnam etc, but few make the effort to visit South East Asia’s smallest country, Brunei. We’ll put that right!

Then, we fly to Malaysian Borneo. home to endangered orangutans, sun bears, proboscis monkeys, and one of the most important wildlife corridors in Southeast Asia.

Plus, we visit and support an amazing charity project near Kota Kinabalu (KK). A project you help fund just by joining. Then it’s on to islands, jungles, rivers, and real jungle lodges. This one’s wild.

The Route

From Brunei’s palaces and markets, to Kota Kinabalu’s coral islands and our hands-on charity project, to Sepilok’s famous orangutan sanctuary, and deep into the Kinabatangan River jungle — this trip packs in a ridiculous amount in just 7 days.

Borneo & Brunei; Royal Orangutans Itinerary

DAY 1: Touchdown Brunei

Direct flight from Kuala Lumpur to Brunei. We’ll settle into this unexpected gem of a country, explore some night markets, and prepare for the wild week ahead.

DAY 2: Palaces & Mosques

Explore Brunei’s surreal contrasts. opulent mosques, stilted water villages, and pristine rainforest right in the capital. Evening flight to Borneo as the adventure levels up.

🏨 Sleep: Late flight to KK, overnight in Kota Kinabalu

DAY 3: Charity Project Day in KK; Giving back

Today is why we do what we do. Roll up your sleeves as we visit a local charity project that you have funded by coming on the trip, near Kota Kinabalu. A school, youth center, or eco-project. It’s hands-on, heart-forward stuff. You’ll see the impact.

🏨 Sleep: Kota Kinabalu

DAY 4: Island Time

Recover from the project with a day trip to Manukan and Sapi Islands — white sand, warm water, snorkelling, maybe a beach BBQ. Optional evening flight to Sandakan for those ready to push east.

DAY 5: Jungle Royalty

Meet the stars of Borneo: orangutans, sun bears, and the bizarrely beautiful proboscis monkeys at Labuk Bay. This is what you came for. Bring a zoom lens.

🏨 Sleep: Sepilok / Sandakan

DAY 6: Into the Jungle

Head up the Kinabatangan River to our jungle lodge. Spot pygmy elephants, crocs, hornbills, and more as we cruise the river at golden hour. This is raw Borneo.

DAY 7: Final Safari & Finish

Wake to the calls of gibbons. One last wildlife cruise. Then we head back to Sandakan to end the journey. Minds blown, cameras full.

TRIP EXTENSION: Join us in Sumatra!

We’re not done yet! If Brunei and Malaysia Borneo wasn’t enough, come join us for an extra 4 NIGHTS/5 DAYS in the magical Indonesian island of Sumatra.

Sumatra Extension Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Medan

Arrive in Medan around 6pm. Settle into your hotel for the night, enjoy a relaxed dinner, and prepare for the adventure ahead. Medan is the gateway to North Sumatra and the perfect base before heading into volcanoes, waterfalls, and the incredible landscapes of Lake Toba. Overnight Medan.

Day 2 – Volcano, Waterfall & Lake Toba

Early drive to Berastagi. Easy Hike up Mount Sibayak (about two hours round trip) with volcanic steam vents and stunning views. Relax in hot springs after. Continue to the dramatic Sipiso Piso waterfall, plunging 120m into the jungle. Drive to Parapat, ferry to Tuk Tuk, and overnight on Samosir Island.

Day 3 – Lake Toba Exploration

Late start on beautiful Samosir Island. Take scooters for a Tuk Tuk loop, passing Batak villages like Ambarita and Tomok. Stop for hot springs, swim in the world’s largest volcanic lake, and enjoy local food. It’s half sightseeing, half relaxation in one of Indonesia’s most scenic hideaways. Overnight Lake Toba.

Day 4 – More Lake Toba

Another relaxed half-day exploring Lake Toba. Visit cultural sites, small markets, or simply unwind lakeside. The beauty of Toba is in slowing down and soaking up the surroundings: calm waters, mountain views, and Batak culture. Choose between light touring or leisure. Luxury accommodation ensures comfort. Overnight Lake Toba.

Day 5 – Return to Medan

Morning ferry from Tuk Tuk to Parapat. Scenic 4–5 hour drive back to Medan through villages and landscapes. Time to reflect on volcano hikes, waterfalls, and Lake Toba’s serenity before onward flights. Overnight Medan optional or connect directly to your next adventure.
