You want to go trekking in Nepal? Here are the 6 best treks in nepal when you finally make it here. I finally CLIMBED MOUNT EVEREST all the way to the Summit in 2023, so I hope I have some weight in this discussion.

So, if you’re heading to Nepal for a trekking holiday then you have a variety of spectacular destinations to choose from. Nepal is blessed with a number of the world’s tallest mountains which makes it an ideal place for all trekkers. What I really loved about the country is that the features of the country differ from the southern plains all the way up to the Himalayas in the North. People flock from all around the globe year after year to trek some spectacular peaks but also to experience; culture, wildlife and stunning landscapes.

So which are the most spectacular destinations in this magical country? Here’s my top 6:

Everest Base Camp

The best trek in Nepal. And one of the best treks in the world. Even if you know nothing about hiking you’ll have heard of Everest Base Camp, it’s the most popular in the Himalayas due to the fact that i’s the tallest mountain in the world. Everest has a certain draw that pulls in thousands of trekkers each year to marvel at its beauty. The Everest Base Camp Trek is easily the most famous and most popular trek in the whole country. It isn’t just the name that makes this trek special, the trail to base camp is absolutely spectacular. The trail passes through the Sagarmatha National Park, which is a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site, but that’s not all because you will also see many Sherpa villages and settlements on your trail. 

There are also spectacular views that will take your breath away. As you follow the Himalayan trails you’ll reach the vantage point, Kalapatthar. This place provides trekkers with a jaw dropping panoramic view of Mount Everest in all its glory. Don’t forget that you will also get to see the Khumbu Glacier also – there’s so much that makes this trek special.

Gokyo RI & the Gokyo Lake

Gokyo RI and Gokyo Lake in Everest are for the more advanced trekkers who are seeking a tough challenge and a real adventure. The Gokyo Lake is a holy place, the water comes from the surrounding glaciers – Hindus believe the lake is holy because it is the home of the Snake Gods. 

Gokyo RI is popular because it is one of the best vantage points of Everest, here you’ll get spectacular views of Cho Oyu, Makalu and much more. On the trek you will experience the Renjo La Mountain Pass which is something all thrill seekers enjoy! One other cool thing you’ll see is a real yeti skull when you stop off at Khumjung village.

Annapurna Poon Hill

The Poon Hill trek is number 4 on the best treks in Nepal. is also goes by the name ‘The Queen of All Vantage Points’ which is a pretty hefty title considering there are so many stunning vantage points in Nepal. It gets the name queen because on the trail you will get an amazing panoramic view of all the Annapurna Himalayas plus some beautiful neighbouring peaks. Annapurna Poon Hill is the ideal trek for people who are short on time but still want to feel how magical the mountains are in Nepal.

The majority of people set off from Ghorepani village in the early hours of the morning because they want to be at Poon Hill for the sun rising over the Annapurna Mountains, which is one of the best sunrises in the whole world! If you ask anyone about the Annapurna Poon Hill trek I guarantee that 99% of them will talk about the sunrise first. As the sun comes up nature puts on one hell of a show as the sunshine turns the Annapurna Mountain peaks into gold – spectacular.

Langtang

A Langtang is a spectacular trekking destination but it is not as well-known as some of the others on this list. Situated where Tibet borders Nepal, Langtang Lirung Mountain towers above the valley of Langtang – it is also known as the valley of glaciers because there are plenty of glaciers in Langtang. The trail you will experience in Langtang is wild, full of rocky terrain and of course provides spectacular views of the Himalayas. If you love wildlife then you’re in for a real treat because in the valley you will find the Langtang National Park, there are a variety of rare species here which thrive in their natural surroundings.

You might be surprised to hear that one famous thing in the valley is a Cheese Factory which I am sure your guide will take you and the other major sight is Kyanjin Gompa. The valley has a large Buddhist population so that means the trail is beautifully decorated by prayer flags and chortens. Your guide will also explain to you about the Tamang who add their ethnic culture to the valley also. Along the trail you will get some amazing views of the surrounding mountains that are over 7,000 meters, this includes; Mount Langtang, Lirung, The Ganesh Himal, Tskerko RI, Kyanjin RI and Dorje Lakpa.

The Annapurna Base Camp

The second most famous base camp in Nepal has to be Annapurna Base Camp. This is one of the most beautiful places I visited throughout all my treks in the country. Located in the Annapurna region, the base camp is blessed with many of the top natural sights that Nepal has. On the trail to base camp will take you through lush landscapes decorated by rhododendrons, with yaks and goats grazing on the abundant pasturelands. All this combines to make you forget all about the hustle and bustle of the big city back home.

The Annapurna base camp trek region is a place where you’ll get to see Gurung and Magar settlements, make sure you ask your guide lots of questions so you learn as much as possible and get to speak to the local people. Other highlights of the trek to base camp include; Ghorepani, the majestic city of Pokhara and the lake it sits next to, the Annapurna Sanctuary – and don’t forget all the stunning views of the Himalayas.

Upper Mustang

If you’re looking to find one of the most stunning and mysterious destinations in the country, then Mustang might just be at the top of the list. Mustang is ideal for trekking during the summer months, interestingly this is not the same as other high altitude treks that run in Nepal. This thriving region is rich in culture and many believe that it is one of the last places in the world that you will find untouched Tibetan Buddhism being practiced the same way it was hundreds of years ago.

I really enjoyed trekking in Mustang because the trail almost feels like you could be in a desert, with weather worn hills and arid landscape, the terrain looks stunning with the peaks of Annapurna & Dhaulagiri in the background.
