Hotel Montera Madrid Review: Luxury in Madrid’s City Centre

It was time to celebrate. After over 10 years on my goal to complete the ULTIMATE Explorer’s Grand Slam, finally in January 2024 I did it! I had a Euro trip planned for Jaa and me as soon as I came back from Antarctica. And Madrid was high on our list. But we wanted to do it in style, considering the occasion. The Hotel Montera was the name on everyone’s lips when I asked what’s the best high-end hotel. So off we went.

Exploring the world has its perks, and one of them is finding hidden gems in the form of luxury accommodations. This hotel seamlessly blends modern elegance with classic Spanish charm, offering a unique experience in the heart of the city. Here’s a detailed review of my stay, covering everything from the rooms to the rooftop bar.

My Hotel Montera Madrid Review

The property

The Hotel Montera is found in a building that is over 100 years old, but in it’s current form it just opened in Spring of 2023. It faces the Gran Via so it’s slap bang in the middle of the city, with awesome views from the rooms and rooftop. The hotel itself starts on the 9th floor, so you have a discrete but high-end entrance with bellboy and butler, then a private lift up to the classy lobby. From here you get an idea of just how nice this property is.

Check-in Process

Just a classy affair right from the outset. As I mentioned above, they have a high-end, small private entrance on the street level. They take your name, and then escort you to the lobby via a private lift.

The lobby instantly declares itself as a high-end 5* hotel. Classy decor, lush desk, and a streamlined process.

Jaa had told them about our celebrations, so rather than the standard room we thought we were getting, they had kinly upgraded up to their suite. A lovely surprise!

The Rooms

The rooms at Hotel Montera Madrid are designed with a perfect mix of contemporary style and comfort. Ours though, was a whole other level considering our upgrade! The moment I stepped into my room, I was greeted by a spacious, well-lit area with sleek furniture and high-quality finishes. A hallway, living area, amazing city views, huge bed, and then a lovely private bathroom area.

Standard Rooms

The standard rooms are anything but basic. They come equipped with all the modern amenities you’d expect from a luxury hotel: flat-screen TVs, high-speed internet, and a minibar stocked with premium beverages. The beds are incredibly comfortable, with soft linens and ample pillows, ensuring a good night’s sleep.

The Suite

For those looking to indulge in a bit more luxury, the suites at Hotel Montera Madrid are truly exceptional. I was in the King Corinto Suite and it was one of the nicest rooms I’ve ever slept in. In all 197 countries!

The suite features a separate living area, a large bedroom, and a luxurious bathroom with a rain shower and soaking tub. The décor is elegant, with tasteful artwork and high-end furnishings. The panoramic views of Madrid from the suite’s windows are breathtaking, providing a stunning backdrop for relaxation or work.

Personal Touches

Not only do they put your name on the bed, Jaa had organised a special celebration for me, where the Montera staff had ‘graffitid’ the mirror to celebrate with me. Classy touch.

Location

Hotel Montera Madrid is ideally situated in the vibrant heart of Madrid, making it a perfect base for exploring the city. We barely used any transport and walked everywhere during our 3 days. It doesn’t get better than that!

There is, however, 2 metro stops within a 5 minute walk, so if you prefer that. It’s super easy too.

Proximity to Attractions

The hotel is located just a short walk from some of Madrid’s most iconic landmarks. The famous Gran Vía, with its plethora of shops, theaters, and restaurants, is just around the corner. The historic Plaza Mayor and the Royal Palace are also within easy walking distance, allowing you to soak in the rich history and culture of Madrid without having to travel far.

Getting to/from the Airport

Traveling to and from Hotel Montera Madrid is a breeze. The hotel is well-connected to Madrid-Barajas Airport, which is approximately 20 kilometers away. The easiest and most convenient way to reach the hotel is by taking a taxi or using a ride-sharing service, which takes about 25 minutes depending on traffic. For those who prefer public transportation, the hotel is close to several metro stations, including Gran Vía and Callao, making it easy to navigate the city and reach the airport.

Facilities

Hotel Montera Madrid offers a range of facilities designed to enhance your stay and provide the utmost convenience.

Fitness Center

I had to pay for my Sangria crimes here!

The hotel’s fitness center is well-equipped with state-of-the-art machines and free weights, catering to all your workout needs. Whether you prefer cardio exercises or strength training, you’ll find everything you need to maintain your fitness routine while traveling.

Business Center

For business travelers, the hotel provides a fully equipped business center with high-speed internet, meeting rooms, and other essential services. The quiet and professional environment makes it an ideal place to work or hold meetings.

Pool and Wellness

After a day of exploring the city, the hotel’s pool on the rooftop is the perfect place to unwind. It’s also home to the bar, and some of the best views in the city!

Rooftop Bar

One of the standout features of Hotel Montera Madrid is its rooftop bar. This is not just a place to grab a drink; it’s an experience in itself. One of the best bars in the city, simple as that.

Ambiance

The rooftop bar boasts a chic and modern design, with comfortable seating and stylish décor. The atmosphere is lively yet relaxed, making it a great spot to unwind with friends or enjoy a romantic evening.

Views

The panoramic views of Madrid from the rooftop are absolutely stunning. As you sip on a cocktail, you can enjoy the sight of the city’s skyline, with landmarks like the Royal Palace and the Almudena Cathedral in the distance. The view is particularly spectacular at sunset, when the sky is painted in hues of orange and pink.

Breakfast, Drinks and Menu

The breakfast is OUTSTANDING. A buffet is available, and depending on your room rate, a la carte too. I was excited every morning to get down and try everything.

The bar offers an extensive menu of cocktails, wines, and spirits, as well as a selection of light bites and appetizers. The mixologists are highly skilled, crafting both classic and innovative cocktails with precision and flair. Whether you prefer a traditional mojito or a unique signature drink, the rooftop bar has something to satisfy every palate.

Price

While Hotel Montera Madrid offers luxury and comfort, it does so at a price that reflects its premium status.

Room Rates

Standard rooms are priced reasonably for a hotel of this caliber, offering excellent value for the amenities and services provided. Prices can vary depending on the season and availability, but you can generally expect to pay around €150-€200 per night for a standard room.

Suite Rates

The suites, while more expensive, offer a level of luxury that justifies the higher price. Rates for suites typically start at around €350 per night and can go up depending on the specific suite and the time of year.

Overall Value

Considering the quality of the rooms, the prime location, and the extensive facilities, Hotel Montera Madrid offers good value for money. The experience is worth the investment, particularly for those looking to enjoy a luxurious stay in the heart of Madrid.

Conclusion

Hotel Montera Madrid is a gem in the heart of Spain’s vibrant capital. From the elegant rooms and suites to the stunning rooftop bar, every aspect of the hotel is designed to provide a memorable and luxurious experience. Its prime location makes it an ideal base for exploring Madrid’s rich history and culture, while the range of facilities ensures that all your needs are met, whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure. The prices reflect the high quality of service and amenities, making it a worthwhile investment for a memorable stay. If you’re planning a trip to Madrid, Hotel Montera Madrid should definitely be on your list of places to stay.
