Top 6 Honeymoon Destinations for 2026
Planning a honeymoon in 2026 is not about picking somewhere that looks good online, anyone can do that. And you know what, actually just writing this brings me back to my own personal wedding in Chiang Mai. An amazing experience. And the feeling when it was finished, we could finally slow down, was as much bliss as the wedding itself. From the outfits you packed with as much care as your wedding dresses, it’s time to indulge yourself. And in peace!
After that we flew to Italy (via Paris) for our honeymoon on the Amalfi Coast. It felt like pressing pause on the world for the first time in months.

For me at least, that is what a honeymoon should be. The literal gap between the wedding and the ‘back to the real world’ vibes. You’ll have just spent MONTHS planning everything. And suddenly none of that matters anymore. That goes from all those expensive clothes you wanna pack, to the places you wake up in each morning. It’s said that a honeymoon shapes how those first weeks of marriage feel. So get it right folks!
In my blog post here, the places below stand out for 2026 because they let you switch off and spend proper time together. Not rushing or performing. Or pleasing others (the wedding was enough of that!) but just being away from everything for a while.
1. The Maldives
Cliche? Maybe. Iconic? For sure. The Maldives is still one of the easiest places in the world to choose for a honeymoon. It works because it removes decisions. Once you arrive, there is nowhere else to go and nothing else to plan. You are on an island, and that is it. For this reason, it’s better to push the boat out and go for luxury. There is literally nothing else to do!
Most resorts sit on their own island. With that privacy comes naturally. Days are super slow, in a good way.Wake up, eat brekkie, swim, rest, wine. And repeat. There is no pressure to see anything or do anything. Oopphh that makes a lovely change. It’s the perfect place to recover from the build up to a wedding.
Evenings in the Maldives are simple too. It’s pretty much always dinner by the water. Warm air. You can choose to dress up a little more than usual. But it’s not compulsory. So whether that’s resort chic or something closer to your romantic evening dresses you’re all set either way. Although I’d say often the setting calls for it. In a nutshell, the Maldives suits couples who want to switch off fully. R&R. Ease into married life without distraction.
2. The Amalfi Coast, Italy
Perhaps even pricier, next up is the Amalfi coast. The Amalfi Coast is whole different vibe to the Maldives. But it works just as well for a honeymoon. It’s super busy, can be crazy loud at times too. And it’s always full of life. Towns like famous Positano and Ravello are built into the cliffs. It’s what you watched in movies as a kid, with views that stop you as you stroll.
Days at the Amalfi often revolve around food, drinks, walking (often on hills!), and sitting still. You eat WILDY late (restaurants often don’t even open until 8pm for dinner!). You sleep well (maybe that’s the Aperol Spritz. And you move slowly. It is easy to lose track of time. that’s the way it should be.
Amalfi suits couples who enjoy being out in the world together. And ones who are ready to spend some money. You are surrounded by people. But don’t worry, it’s still romantic without trying too hard. And again, those views. wow.
3. French Polynesia
At risk of being too American, Bora Bora is just IT. French Polynesia feels far away in a way few places still do. Just getting there is a mission. But once you arrive, that distance becomes part of the experience. A great tip is to match up Moorea, Tahiti and Bora Bora all on the same trip (that’s what I did).
This is a honeymoon for couples who want quiet. And maybe even a feeling of luxury isolation. You spend most of your time near the water. Watching the day pass. There is space to think, talk, and do very little. Almost every resort is all inclusive, so get ready to gain some pounds.
The water here makes the Maldives ocean look like the Atlantic in Winter. Crystal clear doesn’t come close.
4. Japan
Japan is not an obvious honeymoon choice. I know I know. But it makes sense once you are there. Places like Kyoto and Nara ooze romance. Especially in the right season (hello Cherry Blossoms!).
A honeymoon in Japan marries two ideas – sharing moments but also it allows you to keep chasing big experiences. The food, the safety, the architecture, the MATCHA! It’s all different but perfect.
Japan suits couples who still want to feel like they’re traveling on their trip. Something different. Its respectful, thoughtful, and grounded.
5. Santorini, Greece
Europe’s answer to the Maldives. Santorini looks exactly like you expect it to. White buildings, blue water. And sunsets over Oia that slow everyone down. The key is choosing where you stay, and WHEN you stay.
Quieter areas and smaller hotels make a big difference. When you avoid the crowds, Santorini becomes a relaxed place to spend a few days doing very little. This is another destination when perhaps spending a bit more than you planned can make the difference. Otherwise you’re stuck in bunches of people every day, But get it right? It’s bliss.
It is also easy and familiar. It’s romantic without any effort. Many couples like how naturally the wedding feeling carries over here. Easy accessible, lots of stuff to do, and big budget differences allow everyone to try it.
6. Safari and Zanzibar/Seychelles
If you’ve never been on safari, now is the time to splurge! A safari followed by paradise is a perfect combo. The first part is (crazy) early mornings. Very long days. And shared experiences. The second part is the paradise part.
With the Safari lodges, they can come in different shapes and sizes. $1k a night plus, or something that strip life back to basics. Either way, you’ll be waking up early, eating together, and spending a lot of time outside. And sharing those first views of elephants and lions in the wild is majestic.
Ending the trip by the ocean gives your body and mind time to settle. This kind of honeymoon suits couples who want to earn their memories. Then splurge a little on the cliche honeymoon bit after.
Final Thoughts
A honeymoon in 2026 doesn’t need to be perfect. It never does. It just has to be right right for you as a couple. Adventure? Sights? A week of nothing? Whatever you want. Be honest.
After the wedding, you earned what you want. And the honeymoon, all being well, should hoepfully give you space to adjust to married life. Enjoy

As you know, blogging changed my life. I left Ireland broke, with no plan, with just a one-way ticket to Thailand
and no money. Since then, I started a blog, then a digital media company, I've made
more than $1,500,000 USD, bought 4 properties and visited (almost) every country in the world. And I did it all from my laptop as I
travel the world and live my dream. I talk about how I did it, and how you can do it too, in my COMPLETELY FREE
Ebook, all 20,000
words or so. Just finish the process by putting in your email below and I'll mail it right out to you immediately. No spam ever too, I promise!
