6 Great Ways to Celebrate Your Birthday That Aren’t a Party

Most people grow out of party hats and musical chairs pretty quickly once they become young adults. However, that doesn’t mean you should stop celebrating the anniversary of your birth. Luckily, there are plenty of creative options out there to celebrate your birthday that don’t include party hats.

  1. Take a Trip

If you haven’t traveled much (or even if you love traveling as often as possible), then taking a trip somewhere special, like Australia or maybe Europe, is something you’ll never forget. On the other hand, you could just take off on your birthday and see where the road takes you for the weekend. An impromptu road trip is always a ton of fun.

  1. Take Your Family on a Picnic

Pack a hamper with some fried chicken, potato salad, or even a few sandwiches and chips and head out for a family picnic. Add a few toys to the mix for the kids and maybe a bottle of wine for the adults and make a day of it. Whether you picnic by the lake or take an impromptu trip to the beach, you’ll have fun on your birthday for sure, because what’s better than spending your birthday with the people you love the most?

  1. Take a Day Off From Everything

Everyone needs to take a day off at some point, so why not make one of those days your birthday? However, a complete day off doesn’t mean that you do the “catch-up” things that you don’t get done when you’re working. For your birthday, take a day off from work, chores, and anything that needs to be caught up on in your life. Spend it doing the things you love the most, whether it’s reading, hiking, or just curling up on the couch and binge-watching Netflix. It’s your birthday, so spend the day doing what you love.

  1. Go Shopping

There is nothing like treating yourself to a shopping trip on your birthday to lift your spirits. Whether it’s buying some new clothes or browsing the stacks for hours and buying a ton of books by your favorite authors, shopping is a great way to spend your birthday and allows you to buy a few gifts for yourself while you’re at it. Make the day even more special by asking some friends to go with you. Go shopping, out to lunch, and maybe even to a movie. Shopping is more fun when you do it with friends. Tell them you don’t want a present, maybe just a funny birthday card and to spend time together  — what could be better than that?

  1. Pamper Yourself

One of the best ways to celebrate your birthday is by pampering yourself. Look into spas in your area, make an appointment and then just relax for the day while you’re getting a massage, facial, manicure or just pampered and taken care of in general. This is another day that can be spent with friends as well. Book a spa day for you and your best pals and then go get pampered together. There’s nothing like a spa day on your birthday to make you feel brand new and refreshed.

  1. Host a Themed Party

Ok, so we had to leave ONE party option on the list. But hey, if you’re looking for something totally different this birthday, how about hosting a themed party and inviting all your friends? You could plan it around a decade such as the 1970s, 1980s or 1990s or if you really want to go old school, the 1920s. Instruct all your friends to dress for that era, decorate and make sure the food and music suit the time period as well.

These are just a few creative ways that you can still continue to celebrate your birthday as an adult. Children shouldn’t have all the fun. Birthdays are important no matter what age you are.
