Travelling to the City of London is always a treat, especially when I choose to stay in the likes of the Clayton Hotel in the centre of the city. Not only is it a high end, four star hotel, but its amenities, location, food and services couldn’t be better. Whether I’m travelling for business or just for fun, I always try to stay in as central a hotel as possible – and the Clayton Hotel City of London is perfect.
With comfortable rooms, great customer service and even better options for food on site, you can’t get a better hotel experience in the centre of the city. Read ahead for my full review of this amazing, ideally located and beautiful hotel and the experience I enjoyed there.
Location
First off, I can’t say enough about the amazing location for the Clayton Hotel City Of London. Not only is it centrally located in the heart of London, but it’s right off Whitechapel, and only a short walk across the street from Aldgate East tube station which has quick and easy links to the Circle, District and other major tube lines as well as access to above ground rail services to many other parts of the UK. Not only that, but the hotel is within short walking distance of many restaurants, bars, and Old Spitalfield Market, a Victorian-era covered market where you can find gourmet snacks, cute tearooms and various market vendors selling stuff from souvenirs to clothing and everything in between.
If you like exploring cities by foot, the Clayton Hotel City of London is your place to be. Not only is it great area to explore the historic (and infamous) Whitechapel district, but it’s also ideally located to take a stroll through some of London’s historic streets to the Thames Riverside where you can find the popular (and also infamous) Tower of London and Tower Bridge. Brick Lane Market is only a few minutes walk, and with boutique shopping just a tube ride away in the likes of Oxford Street, it’s no surprise this is a popular location for so many travellers.
Being right in the heart of a crossroads between Whitechapel, Spitalfields and the City of London means that for those who love infamous history, walking tours featuring the terrible tale of Jack the Ripper and his crimes is right at your doorstep. Take a journey back to the late 1800s and explore the murder scenes as they are today while hearing the stories of the women, the man and the complex cases that were never solved.
Amenities
The Clayton Hotel City of London is known for having fantastic amenities, perfect for making you feel right at home, regardless of the reason or length of your stay. With an excellent fitness room that can help keep you in shape on your travels, it’s the perfect place if you’re like me and want to stay in top shape while in a city filled with amazing pubs, pub grub and other treats from various market stalls.
Other amenities that are on offer at the Clayton Hotel City of London include free wifi in all rooms, ticketing services for a number of travelling means, 24 hour reception with express and private check in or check out as well as on site business services including fax and photocopying/printing at an additional charge as well. Daily housekeeping means your room will always be spotless, a fantastic point for those who are staying for several days.
Rooms
I have to say that the rooms at the Clayton Hotel City of London are some of the most modern and beautifully decorated that I’ve ever come across in a hotel. They have gone with darker wood floors adorned with carpets that makes it seem more like a bedroom in a home, allowing you to just get right to relaxing and not having to feel like you need to ‘settle in’. It really gives the space a feeling like being at home. The bathrooms were meticulously clean and modern as well, but not so much so that it felt out of place. The whole set up makes you feel warm, welcome and cozy, a winning combination for those who have busy business trips or full schedules exploring London’s many attractions and features.
Food and Restaurant
If eating out isn’t your thing, one of the best parts of the Clayton Hotel City of London is the fact that it offers 24 hour dining facilities including room service as well as Vitality breakfast served everyday with an option to eat it in your room. With the Grill restaurant open from 530-10pm, as well as the Globe Bar serving snacks of all kinds along with smaller meals, you will find something on site to suit your taste buds and your desires. Just want a quick coffee before you head out? No worries – check out the onsite Red Bean Roastery which specialises in delicious coffees of all kinds that will leave you coming back for more. You can even request extras such as wine and champagne to be brought to the room for an additional charge.
Overall, I definitely have to say that I’d 100% hands down recommend the Clayton Hotel City of London anytime to anyone. With so many great amenities, rooms, onsite restaurants and customer service, the Clayton Hotel City of London is my number one go to whenever I’m in the city. The location and service overall cannot be beat, so if you’re looking for a hotel that meets all your criteria, you have to give this one a try.
