Mount Vinson and the South Pole 2023/24
In my bid to be the first person to visit every country, the proper 7 summits (Messner list) and the North and South Pole, I’ll be venturing to climb Mount Vinson in Antarctica this winter, as long as I successful summit Mount Everest first! I’ll also try to hit up the South Pole while I’m there.
It’s not ‘my trip’ (like my trips to Iraq, Mauritania, Mali, Jordan etc), this is just a trip I’m joining. But you guys are welcome to come along for the ride!

More about climbing the highest mountain in Antartica, Mount Vinson
If you don’t know about the 7 summits, the highest mountain on each continent, READ THIS. Climbing Mount Vinson will be my final of the 7.
How much does it cost?
A lot! I’m budgeting $50,000USD. Ouch!
How long does it take?
The expedition is normally 12 or 13 days. So call it 2 weeks.
How hard is it?
It’s ‘only’ around 5000m so the altitude isn’t soooo bad. But it’s the cold! That’s tough. That means most companies mark it as ‘extremely strenuous’. Basically, be in the best shape of your life.
More about traveling to the South Pole
I’m hoping to kill 2 birds with 1 stone and hit up the South Pole while I’m in the area! There are 3 options basically. Fly in, fly near by and ski a week up to the pole (known as ‘ski the last degree’) or ski the whole continent! One day, I will do the 3rd option, but for now it’s just too expensive (up to $100k, wow). So I’m going to go for the (still expensive) cheapest option. Fly in.
How much will it cost?
Without the vinson climb, it can be around $70k. If we join the climb and the pole together, about $90k. A huge saving.
How long does it take?
Allocate an additional 10 days for this.
How hard is it?
If it’s just the flight etc, not hard at all.
