Horse racing is one of the oldest sports in the world. For centuries it has been wowing crowds with adrenaline packed, exciting races. You can track the sport as far back as the Greek Olympics in 648 BC! It is now a sporting event full of sophistication, tradition and a lot of partying too.
The crowds go wild as the horses race towards the finish line, cheering on their riders in the hope of winning some money with the bookmakers such as Williamhill. There are hundreds of race tracks all over the world, but there are only a handful that are known as the best and largest. They have become famous because they host the biggest races, such as Royal Ascot and the Kentucky Derby, and also because they boast some world class facilities.
Here is our list the top 3 horse racing tracks in the world.
Churchill Downs, Kentucky
This is probably the most famous race course on the planet, that’s largely due to it being home to the Kentucky Derby. Even before I knew anything about horse racing I had heard about the Derby, it’s right up there on the American sporting calendar with the Superbowl. Due to the face that the course is so famous you can be sure to find some real luxury here. There’s a strict dress code during the Kentucky Derby so make sure you’ve got your best kit on before you hit the track. I love it here and haven’t found anyone with a bad word to say about the place.
Ascot Racecourse, England
Ascot owes its fame largely due to its connection with the royal family. Each year the Royal Ascot festival is held, one of the most prestigious horse racing festivals in the world. Over four days in June you will find 24 of the world’s major horse races taking place at Ascot. The queen attends the event each year and even has her own horse entered into a race. If you’re looking for a quintessential English experience then Royal Ascot has it all. You’ll see English wealth and style in abundance here. Who doesn’t love putting on their gladrags, sipping on champagne and having a flutter? A must see if you love England and the horses!
Cheltenham Racecourse, England
Whilst Cheltenham may not have the royal tag, it still has some of the best racing in the world. I love it here because during the annual Cheltenham festival there’s plenty of fun to be had watching the races and enjoying a great party! My favorite day has to be St Patrick’s Thursday. It’s a day to celebrate everything Irish and whilst it may not always fall on St Patrick’s Day that doesn’t mean there won’t be a big party! There is always a huge irish contingent at the festival which guarantees you one of the best days of racing and fun to be found on the planet.
