Alexander’s Suites Review, Oia Santorini; The Best Hotel in Santorini? Very Possibly

The postcards of Santorini all depict that same gorgeous scene, the white caves, the blue roofs, the Mediterranean sparkling. It is literally one of the most beautiful scenes in the world. So if you’re coming to Santorini, do it right. That’s what I did. And my Alexander’s Suites Review will show how! Some places aren’t meant to be done on a tight budget!

And if you’re looking for a blend of traditional Cycladic charm and modern luxury, my Alexander’s Suites review will convince you that this luxury spot in Oia, Santorini, is a strong choice. Nestled along the cliffside of the iconic caldera, this boutique hotel offers jaw-dropping views of the Aegean Sea and Santorini’s famous sunsets. Right from the comfort of your room or private terrace.

For me, I’ve been to Santorini twice. And the first time I visited, Alexander’s Suites was the first ever 5* hotel I stayed in. It will forever be dear to me.

MY EXPERIENCE

I stayed at Alexander’s Boutique Hotel here for 4 days and it was without doubt the best hotel experience in my life. The boutique villas are actual caves, dug into the cliff face, with each of the balconies overlooking the sea. It’s the sort of view you’ll never tire of.

The Suites

The suites are spacious and beautifully designed. With whitewashed walls and traditional Greek aesthetics, giving them an authentic feel while offering modern amenities. Most of the suites come with private balconies or terraces, perfect for enjoying the caldera views. Some suites even feature outdoor hot tubs or plunge pools, adding an extra layer of luxury.

The suites are designed with a charming, minimalist Cycladic aesthetic. Whitewashed walls, cave-style architecture, and touches of blue and natural wood that echo the island’s iconic look. Many suites feature private outdoor hot tubs or plunge pools, making it ideal for romantic getaways. Guests can enjoy the breathtaking views of the caldera. And the sparkling sea from the comfort of their rooms or private balconies.

BREAKFAST

You wake up in the morning, call for complimentary breakfast and the staff have it waiting on your balcony for you to eat in your robe. With the view that most people have seen only in magazines literally on your doorstep. Breathtaking.

This was some hardcore balling backpacking stuff. I felt like Nicholas Cage in Lord of War and I loved every second of it!

THE OWNER (& staff)

Alexander is a bit of a Santorini celebrity, and it’s easy to see why. He effectively has a free flow of wine going on in reception every late afternoon and evening where he mingles with guests each day. This is nothing to do with business though. It’s because he loves people and loves the interaction and everyone who meets him falls in love with him and his spirit.

A legend. Simple as that.

It’s entirely feasible that he might take you to dinner on the beach, where his generosity was endless. You can’t walk/drive 5 minutes without someone coming over to shake his hand, kiss him on the cheek etc.

“Young at heart” was a phrase invented for Alex. Within 20 minutes of ordering dinner on our first night, our group on Alex’s suggestion, were skinny dipping in the Mediterranean to work up an appetite for the feast ahead. Like Alex says, if you’re coming to Santorini, do it right. And he certainly knows how to do it right! His hotel is most probably the best hotel in Santorini.

The staff here are great too, especially Yvetta, Daniel and Hans. Who can’t do enough to make your stay the best imaginable. All the staff at Alexander’s Suites is known for their warm hospitality and attentiveness. Which is why my alexander’s suites review is so positive to be honest.

Guests consistently praise the management for being helpful with restaurant recommendations, transportation, and organizing activities like wine tours or boat trips around the island. Breakfast is served daily to your suite, adding a nice touch to the intimate experience.

Location

Situated in the heart of Oia, the hotel is within walking distance of the village’s best restaurants, shops, and the iconic blue-domed churches. Despite being in the bustling part of Oia, Alexander’s Suites still manages to feel like a quiet retreat, making it perfect for couples or honeymooners.

THE PRICE

Alexander’s Suites is on the luxury end of the spectrum in Santorini, but the experience justifies the price tag. Depending on the season and room type, rates can range from €300 to €800 per night, particularly for suites with private terraces or hot tubs.

While it may seem steep, the personalized service, prime location, and the sheer beauty of the setting make it a worthwhile splurge for those seeking a luxurious stay in Santorini.

Getting There

Getting to Alexander’s Suites is relatively easy. Most travelers fly into Santorini (Thira) International Airport (JTR). From the airport, Oia is about a 25-minute drive. The hotel can arrange private transfers, or you can take a taxi or use public buses that run regularly between the airport and Oia. Alternatively, you can arrive via ferry at the Athinios Port, with transfers to Oia taking around 30 minutes. Once in Oia, Alexander’s Suites is centrally located, making it easy to explore the village on foot.

Final comments on my Alexander’s Suites Review

Santorini is a once in a lifetime experience. One where I felt I should enjoy it with some local wine and a hot tub, temporarily saying goodbye to long bus journeys and cramped dorm rooms. Some places you should try to save money. Other places are meant to splurge. Oia, Santorini is like that. Much like Bora Bora, Maldives, Amalfi Coast etc.

I got fully recharged during my stay here, and I’m ready to hit the road again. But I’ll say this, when you come to Santorini check out this place, it will blow your mind. And even if you don’t sleep here, come and have a glass of wine with Alex, you’re guaranteed some quality stories. Happy travels!
