So as a lot of you know, I spend nine months a year traveling around the world each year, and then three months in Thailand to recover and pretend to be a normal person for a little while. I bought a place in Bangkok, and it’s now my adopted home, and I LOVE to find new things to do in my city.

So when my oldest friend from Ireland was visiting me, I had to dig out something awesome for us to do together…. and I came across one of the coolest things I’ve done in Bangkok in a long time – surfing in the city. Flowhouse is an amazing way to spend an afternoon or evening, they open every day from around 09:00 , and run until late in the evenings. In fact they often have DJs, and parties in the evenings too, so be sure to check out their facebook page for events.

LOCATION:

It’s in a little shopping area called A-Square, down Sukhumvit 26. I took the SKy Train to BTS Phrom Pong and then walked about fifteen minutes down the street, pretty simple. A taxi shouldn’t be too pricey from anywhere in Bangkok either.

You can check out their location stuff HERE

HOW IT WORKS:

There are two channels. You pay per hour for access to one channel and you share it with a couple of other people. Or you and your friends can take over the whole channel. There’s a countdown so you have sixty minutes per session unless you booked more time. For me an hour was great, but I think two hours would be perfect, then shower and move on to the after party.

FOOD AND DRINK:

The food here is AMAZING. I don’t mean that in the way all Thai food is amazing, I mean it was literally some of the nicest food I’ve ever eaten, so plan to eat here. And even better, the bar/restaurant area, which overlooks the surfers, is sponsored by Chang Beer, so be ready to sink a few after your surf session. It’s great fun.

COST:

Depending on exchange rates It’s about fifteen/twenty bucks USD for an hour, cheaper if you sign up for more hours, which is what most people do. Ladies night. Ladies nights on thursdays allow the fairer sex to surf for fifteen bucks total, as long as you want. Pretty sweet. There are always promotions going on too, so check it out.

ATMOSPHERE:

Aside from the amazing fun the actual surfing is, the best part of Flow House is the vibe. The instructors teach beginners like me what to do, step by step. The locals are so happy to give you advice, there’s a nice mix of expats, Thais and travelers and the whole place is like one awesome club. The parties, the food, the people, the location – it’s just brilliant to be honest. I’m so impressed with the entire get up. Whether you’re a pro, or an absolute beginner, you’ll love it – I guarantee it.

So many people hate Bangkok, and it’s because they get locked in the backpacker bubble of Khao San Road. There’s so so much more to this amazing city, you just have to know where to go and what to do. So I’m here to help with that 🙂

Anyway, we had an amazing day experiencing Flow House, I’ll be back super soon. Oh, and here’s a video of my buddy trying it out for the first time, he’ll hate me for this 😛
