The Riviera Maya is one of Mexico’s premier Caribbean destination hotspots. Here you’ll find endless white sand beaches, beautiful resorts of all sorts, great dining options and attractive stores that beckon the shopper in all of us. You’ll also find a large variety of things to do and see, including some great adventure sports and activities to partake in any day of your trip. So after you’ve checked into one of the many great Riviera Maya hotels, you’ll want to change your clothes and get ready for an adventure of a lifetime.
White Water River Rafting
A prized sport loved by many, white water river rafting is an intense, non-stop action filled adventure that takes you down a river brimming with rapids. When rafting you’ll find yourself traveling down Copper Canyon on the Papigochi River in the canyon’s northern region. When will you be able to raft? Unfortunately you won’t be able to enjoy this sport throughout the year but rather between the months of June and September. When booking a trip however, it is important to note that this river is catalogued as a level III and is not suitable for first timers.
Swim with Whale Sharks
If swimming with beautiful, gentle giants in the sea has been on your adventure list for some time now, you’ll want to book a whale shark swimming experience during your visit. Getting up to 32 feet in length, whale sharks are impressive open sea creatures that venture toward the shores of Mexico each year. During a snorkeling experience, you’ll have the chance to come face to face with one or more of these magical creatures. Because this is an experience of a lifetime, make sure to bring some sort of underwater camera with you so that you’ll be able to capture this experience to show all your friends. If your camera has video mode, even better.
Put it all together- rappel, off road, snorkel and zip line
If you’re really looking for a no holds back, all in one adventure, you’ll want to seek out a day trip through the jungle and out to the sea. First you’ll start off with a little Polaris UTV off roading through valley, jungle and more before rappelling into the heart of a closed cave. The next adventure begins with some zip lining into fresh water where you’ll then be able to take a break and cool off. You’ll then end the day with some snorkeling as you swim through an open air cenote. If you have no fear, you’ll want to throw in a cliff jump at the end too.
As you can see from above, there are lots of great adventures to choose from. If you’re looking for just a day or two out, then you’ll want to pick the one that’s more up our alley. If you’re wishing for a vacation filled to the top with adventure and don’t mind traveling home exhausted, then you’ll want to partake in all of the ones mentioned above
