For the adventurous traveler, Kenya is one destination you definitely want to check off your list. Kenya is a beautiful country rich with culture, animals and natural landscapes. A trip here means you’ll be soaking in the outdoors, exploring the African lands and making friends with zebras and giraffes. You’ll have experiences here that you would never have if you had chosen a more mainstream tourist destination.
Hike Mt. Kilimanjaro or Mt. Kenya
Do you like to get out your hiking boots while on holiday? Kenya is your perfect destination because it contains two gigantic mountains that offer gorgeous hiking experiences. While most of Mt. Kilimanjaro is in Tanzania, you can also access it from Kenya and experience this 4th highest mountain in the world. You might want to cross over into Tanzania to find a good guide to take you up. Or check out Mt. Kenya, the second highest mountain in the continent, for more gorgeous hiking.
Go on Safari
You can’t call a visit to Kenya complete without going on safari to see the abundance of wildlife that lives here. On safari, you’ll want to check off the Big 5 from your list: the lion, African elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard. Don’t forget to bring a camera with you on your safari to capture the experience. If you forgot to bring one, you can check out the classified ads at olx.co.ke to find a camera secondhand.
Ride a Hot Air Balloon over Maasai Mara
So you’ve already gone on safari and taken pictures of zebras, cheetahs and monkeys close up. Now it’s time to get an entirely new perspective on the wildlife here in Kenya! The Maasai Mara National Reserve is the perfect place to go up in a hot air balloon. Not only is the ride itself totally unforgettable, but you’ll get a totally new view of the animals moving across the savannah.
Visit Lamu Island
To escape the mainland for a while, you’ll want to check out Lamu Island off the coast of Kenya. Here, there are very few motor vehicles or even roads, just footpaths, so the vibe here is serene and quiet. Lamu Town is quaint and full of character, and is actually the oldest town in Kenya. Enjoy the quiet atmosphere and pristine beaches here on the island.
Explore the Great Rift Valley
The outdoor adventures continue with an exploration of the Great Rift Valley, a unique landform to visit in Kenya. The lake and river system here is home to a bounty of wildlife, so you can get amazing photos here. Explore at your own pace and forget about the rest of the world as you seek out the wildlife native to Kenya.
