Europe has long been hailed as one of the most romantic destinations in the world, and it’s easy to see why. From its modern cosmopolitan cities to splendid architectures and breath-taking landscapes, Europe presents plenty of opportunities for couples looking for a romantic getaway. Given the many romantic places in Europe, it’s hard to decide where to visit. To help you with this, here are the most romantic cities in Europe that loved-up couples should visit.

  1. London

London’s iconic buildings and lovely streets lure travellers from around the world to visit. Of course, these include couples who are going on a romantic trip. It may not have the same reputation as Paris and Venice, but the city has several romantic places where passionate lovers can cosy up. Primrose Hill is one of these. Surrounded by peaceful trees and green fields while overlooking the city’s stunning views, Primrose Hill is the perfect place to share that first kiss!

Another gorgeous location for a romantic date in London is the Kew Gardens. Set on the banks of the River Thames, this botanical garden also serves as an internationally acclaimed botanical research institution. Hold each other’s hand as you explore this massive garden and discover the thousand different species of plants and flowers. London’s Little Venice is also a great spot to visit. This hidden gem is located close to Paddington Station and is notable for its tranquil waterside where you and your loved one can relax.

If you want to visit several places in London while saving money, consider checking out the London pass cost reviews. This pass gives free admission to some of the city’s top attractions. It also gives discounts on tours and public transportation.

  1. Paris

Dubbed the “City of Love”, this list won’t be complete without Paris. After all, it’s home to the famous Eiffel Tower and a heap of gorgeous spots that exudes romance. With its lovely cobblestone streets, the neighbourhood of Montmartre is the perfect place to stroll hand in hand with your loved one. Make sure you visit the Eiffel Tower at dusk, as it’s more striking, thanks to its beautiful sparkling lights.

For that perfect romantic day in Paris, wake up early to visit the stunning Palace of Versailles. Make a stop at one of the cosy cafes and grab a croissant and coffee. After a whole day of exploring the magnificent grandeur of Versailles, head back to the city to book a romantic dinner cruise at the River Seine. End the night watching a show at the Moulin Rouge then toast to a glass of champagne to celebrate your love for each other.

  1. Lisbon

Lisbon may not be the first thing that comes to mind when it comes to the most romantic places in Europe, but this underrated city will surprise you with its unique charm and beauty. The gorgeous winding lanes of the Alfama neighbourhood is well worth a visit. It’s lined with ancient houses and some of Lisbon’s most iconic buildings such as the Castelo de S. Jorge and Se Cathedral.

Lisbon is also famous for its miradouros (viewpoints) where you can catch a glimpse of beautiful rows of red-tiled roofed houses with the pristine white Belem Monastery in the backdrop. Almost every corner of Lisbon exudes romance. It’s common to see loved-up couples all over the place, from young lovers sharing a kiss on a tram ride to elderly couples walking hand-in-hand on the bustling Praça do Comércio.

To make the most of your romantic getaway in Lisbon, base yourself in the heart of the city and stay in one of many large Portugal villa rentals that are equipped with luxurious amenities such as an overlooking terrace and pool.

  1. Rome

With its operas, ballets, and quaint hidden cafes, Rome is certainly one of Europe’s most romantic places to visit. While here, don’t miss the chance to witness the spectacular performances at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. After the show, treat your loved one to a local gelato.

Spend the day exploring Rome’s famous attractions, such as the Colosseum and the Pantheon. If you are adventurous enough, rent a Vespa, and zip through the city’s narrow, labyrinthine streets. After a whole day of exploring, head to the Borghese landscape gardens, a wonderful place to relax and whisper sweet nothings. End your day with an intimate dinner at one of the city’s Michelin Starred restaurants.

Visiting bustling markets such as in the Piazza Campo de’ Fiori is another way to spend quality time with your loved one in Rome, stopping at some of the best Roma pizza places on the way. The best time to visit this historical square is early in the morning when the place is transformed into a busy marketplace. And finally, don’t forget to make a wish at the Trevi Fountain, a must-do for every lover in Rome.

  1. Prague

Prague exudes romance in every angle, so it deserves to be called one of the most romantic cities in Europe. From the breath-taking sunsets and sunrises to the grandiose architectures, Prague should be on the bucket list of every travelling couple. The city seems to be untouched since the 1300s, where centuries-old castles and ancient churches line its charming streets.

The moment you arrive, Prague will surely steal a piece of your heart. Head to the Charles Bridge, a wonderful place to catch the most romantic sunrise and sunset. It tends to get crowded during peak hours, so better come early. Check out the love and peace signs on the John Lennon Wall and attach your own love lock at the bridge.

Enjoy a relaxing stroll along the city’s narrow cobblestone streets and head towards the Old Town District before going to Petrin Hill. Here, you will find the statue of the famous romantic poet, Karel Macha. It is believed that if you share a kiss in front of the statue you will be blessed with eternal love, so go ahead, don’t miss the opportunity! Finally, end your day watching an opera show at the Prague State Opera House. Even if you are not into operas, it’s still recommended to visit the grandiose Opera house, as it features impressive neo-Renaissance architecture.
