Miami is one of those places that you’ll never forget. It is one of the most unique locations in the world, with its art deco buildings and of course, the amazing beaches. It’s also one of the top locations for a weekend break for many US residents, and with these events on the calendar for 2020 it’s easy to see why.
The Super Bowl – February
It’s the big NFL showpiece, and at least this time there’s a guarantee that it won’t snow like it did back in Dallas in 2011. The Kansas City Chiefs face the San Francisco 49ers, with Jennifer Lopez and Shakira providing the half-time entertainment.
So who’s going to win? No idea! To be honest no one really knows. The latest odds offer no clear favourites and that’s what makes this one of the most interesting Super Bowls in recent history. Even if you’re not a fan, this will be quite the spectacle.
South Beach Wine and Food Festival – February
If you like food (who doesn’t?) then you need to get down to the South Beach Wine and Food Festival. Now, this is a food festival with a difference as there’s genuinely something for everyone. There are intimate dinners hosted by world-renowned chefs, fun events, and plenty of walk around tastings.
The thing that makes this festival so special is that they really do have everything covered. There are foodie movie nights for all ages, and if you have a dog you can bring pooch along to one of the pet events.
Ultra Music Festival – March
If you’re a fan of electronic dance music, the Ultra is your paradise. This three-day music event is the biggest music festival in the area and one of the most famous dance music events in the world.
This year it’s back at Bayfront Park, where it spent a successful ten years prior to last year’s temporary move to Virginia Key Beach Park. If you’re not into dance music then you may not recognise too many of the acts, but you should know Carl Cox and David Guetta at the very least. Should be a pretty epic weekend.
Florida Supercon – May
If comics and all things fantasy and sci-fi are your thing, you can’t go wrong with a trip to the Miami Beach Convention Center for Florida Supercon. It promises to be a great event this year with lots of big names that folk in the know will be very excited about.
There are even some household names booked for 2020, with William Shatner being the biggest draw of them all. Expect to see the city full of stormtroopers and super heroes for the three days that this event takes place.
Miami Book Fair
Every year, bibliophiles of the US unite to celebrate all things literary in Miami. It’s a weeklong festival of books that actually has events that take place throughout the year. There are plenty of public readings by authors and meet and greets for fans.
The highlight of the week though is that massive outdoor street fair that boasts a huge youth section. If you’re into books and would like to meet an author or poet, this fair is a must for your Miami itinerary.
Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade – December
It’s the biggest show on H2O and it certainly lives up to the billing. As you may have guessed from the name, this event is a parade on water with a winter theme. It’s now become the traditional and unofficial start of the local holiday season, and is one of the most popular things to do in Florida.
There will be over a million viewers on the river watching the parade on its twelve-mile run. There are literally tons of places to watch from and many of them provide food and refreshments for viewers. Unfortunately, there’s no way to get on the boats, but why would you want to? The parade really is best viewed from the riverside with a hotdog and hot chocolate in hand.
And that’s your lot. If you plan on visiting the coolest city in the US this year make sure you attend at least one of these events. But if you can’t make it check out the local events page. The Miami events calendar is packed with fun events throughout the year and there’s guaranteed to be at least one on during your stay.
