Over the years, Dubai has grown from being just a tourist destination to a divine abode of unbelievable architectural marvels. From an enormous fake island in the ocean to the tallest building in the world, this Arab nation continues to capture the world’s attention with its breath-taking designs and spectacularly-executed architecture. These unique structures display the best modern engineering techniques and artistic expressions.
If you are a fan of cool architecture, then do plan your next trip to Dubai. There are some good flights from Delhi to Dubai that can give some amazing offers as well. Here are some of the most iconic landmarks worth seeing.
Burj Khalifa
Burj Khalifa is undoubtedly the most iconic of all. It is the tallest man-made structure and building in the world with a total height of 829.8 m. It took about 6 years to complete and is 160-stories high. You will be able to see the spire of the building from more than 95 kilometers away.
Called the ‘Jewel of Dubai’, Burj Khalifa is a powerful blend of technology and culture that has redefined modern architecture and engineering. This global icon is a magical combination of neo-futuristic and Islamic architectural styles. It is undoubtedly a fitting tribute to Dubai’s opulence.
Palm Jumeirah
Another glittering tribute to the architectural marvels of Dubai is the man-made archipelago of Palm Jumeirah. Dubai has three similar artificial islands and this one is the largest. Located in the Persian Gulf off the coast of the UAE, Palm Jumeirah is home to beachside villas, luxury hotels, water theme parks, restaurants, shopping malls, health spas, and sports facilities.
It took more than 10 to 15 years for the UAE-based Nakheel Properties to create the exotic palm island. The archipelago also added more than 520 kilometers of beaches to the coastline of Dubai.
The other artificial islands are Palm Jebel Ali and Palm Deira.
Cayan Tower
It is hard to forget the amazing Cayan tower of Dubai with its 90-degree rotation. Once known as the ‘Infinity Tower’, the building is twisted 90 degrees from base to roof without any structural pillars. It is one of the tallest 90-degree twisting towers in the world. The residential building has a total of 73 floors. If you are one of those people who can afford to buy an apartment in the tower, then you will get to enjoy some of the most mesmerizing views of the surrounding waterfront.
The extraordinary spiral architecture is not just meant to be a visual treat. It also protects the interior from direct sunlight.
Dubai Mall
The Dubai Mall is the largest shopping mall in the world by area. Adjacent to the iconic Burj Khalifa, it is an integral part of Downtown Dubai. This charming slice of heaven is filled with several eateries, department stores, retail shops, and an enormous entertainment zone. It also has the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo.
The mall draws in many travelers from all over the world. There is an adjoining luxury hotel for visitors who want to stay back after a busy day shopping and dining. It also has the Olympic-size Ice Rink that can host international competitions and events.
Burj Al Arab
This marvel of engineering is the only 7-star hotel in the world and is located on a man-made island. It is the world’s fourth tallest hotel and is shaped to mimic the spinnaker sail of a J-class yacht. This iconic design makes it stand out in the Dubai skyline.
With its best dining experience, phenomenal scenes, and a deluxe stay, it is one of the most luxurious places to be on the entire planet. The hotel even has a helipad to transport visitors. Guests are sure to savor mouth-watering dishes and have one of the best experiences of their lives in this grandiose hotel.
Dubai Frame
Looking more like something out of a Stanley Kubrik movie, this architectural landmark in Zabeel Park holds the record for being the largest frame in the world. Previously known as Al Berwaz Tower, the charming picture frame structure was built using glass, aluminum, and steel. It is about 150-meter-high and 93-meter-wide.
From one side of the frame, you can witness the modern face of Dubai and the other side shows ancient Dubai. It is a wonderful place for travelers to come and learn about the growth of Dubai.
Emirates Towers
The Emirates Towers consist of two skyscrapers- one is the Emirates Office Tower and the other is the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel. Both of them have a unique and iconic equilateral triangular outline and are easily recognizable across Dubai’s scintillating skyline.
The Boulevard is the shopping center that connects these two structures from the ground. Guests can explore the many eateries and shops present here. They can also spend the night by booking a space of their preference from the luxurious 400 rooms and suites in the hotel.
The Museum Of The Future
This stunning evidence of tomorrow is not only an obscure architectural masterpiece by itself but also is the home to some of the most mind-blowing inventions connecting researchers, engineers, and inventors. Its exteriors are built using stainless steel and glass fiber and are a beauty to behold. There are seven floors and each one is committed to various displays.
If you are visiting The Museum of The Future, do take a look at their famous space station. It allows visitors to virtually travel above the earth like astronauts and understand more about the earth and space
The World Islands
Dubai is not new to making man-made islands. However, this artificial archipelago, consisting of 300 human-made islands, is unique because it resembles the whole world map. Yes! Islands that look like the world man when viewed from above. Situated 4 kilometers off the coast of the city of Dubai, you can witness the world shape of the islands either from space or from the highest viewing point in the Burj Khalifa.
The World Islands are an architectural wonder that is getting a lot of attention from around the world.
Atlantis
Standing tall near the Jumeirah beach, Atlantis is an extravagant hotel that looks as if it was part of some fairy tale. It was opened in 2008 and immediately became one of the top spots for all the tourists visiting the city. Many consider it one of the best architectural spectacles in Dubai. The ‘Underwater Suites’ are the main highlight of Atlantis. Filled with world-class facilities and lip-smacking food, it is indeed the ultimate destination for tourists.
It is also home to a number of marine species and hosts many adventurous water activities like scuba diving and swimming with dolphins.
