It is everyone’s dream, to buy a car and head out on the open road. The ‘road trip’ has been made famous in numerous hollywood movies, we are given the idea that it is the best way to feel free and bond with friends.
The movies aren’t wrong, anyone that has been on a road trip will tell you just how amazing they are! Whether you are heading off around the world or travelling across a country you are sure to have the time of your life! Can you think of anything more appealing than to buy a used car, get a map out, pack the boot and head off on an adventure? I certainly can’t!
When you go on a road trip you will have more interaction with locals and also so many unplanned experiences, there’s no set schedule that you have to stick to, you make the rules and you make your own fun. So here’s my list of the most beautiful road trips that you can go on.
Route 66
This is the godfather of all road trips, made iconic in the movies and one that is top of the list of all road trips. Route 66 will take you from Chicago to Los Angeles, passing fantastic sights along the way! Very little needs to be said about Route 66 apart from that you must do it!
Coast to Coast in South Africa
This road trip of over 3, 000 kilo meters will take you through Durban, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town. This amazingly beautiful route will take you from a UNESCO World Heritage site in Mozambique all the way to the border of Namibia. This has to be undoubtedly one of the most beautiful road trips imaginable.
The Pan-American Highway
If you want to cross a continent then this is the road trip for you. You will travel over 24, 000 kilo meters on this mammoth road trip. The famous highway connects South America; from Chile to Suriname, Guyana to Paraguay, this trip can only be described as epic! Dig out a copy of the motorcycle diaries if you are looking for some inspiration.
Amalfi Coast
This is not an epic trip in terms of distance because it is only 40 kilo meters long. What it lacks in distance it certainly makes up for with beauty. It has been described as one of the most picturesque drives on the planet. You will drive along the the coast of Sorrentine in Souther Italy. The place is so beautiful and special that UNESCO declared is a World Heritage Site in the late ’90s.
