6 Ways to Make Money While You Travel
If you’re like most people, you have a bit of wanderlust embedded into your DNA. You want to travel the world, see new things, and experience as many different cultures as you possibly can. But despite the desire to travel, you continue to plug away at your 40-hour-per-week job and watch Netflix in the evenings. It’s the same old story. Wash, rinse, repeat.
Why do you continue to put off seeing the world? It’s pretty simple, actually: You don’t feel like you have the financial freedom or flexibility to travel. But here’s the truth: There are plenty of ways to make money while traveling the world. You simply need to be enlightened as to which opportunities exist.
Try These 6 Money-Making Methods
While you probably won’t get wealthy travelling the world, there’s no reason you can’t make enough to travel and put away a little cash for the future. Here are a few methods that may work for you:
Rent Your Personal Assets:
Any asset you own can potentially be rented to someone else while you travel. This includes:
- Your car. There are a handful of online services that will actually let you rent your car, much like you would a house on Airbnb. Turo is probably the most well-known car rental option, but others do exist.
- Your house. You can also put your house up on Airbnb and/or find a long-term renter. If you’re renting an apartment, check your lease agreement to see if you’re allowed to sublet the property to someone else for a period of time.
If nothing else, renting your car and house could offset any debt payments you have on your property and limit your expense sheet. This lowers the amount of money you have to make on an ongoing basis in order to stay current on your bills.
Buy a Rental Property
If you like the idea of renting, you might entertain the thought of buying a rental property as a way of generating even more cash flow on a recurring basis. If you can find the right property with a high enough ROI, all you have to do is hire a property management service and they’ll handle all of the details (like finding tenants, collecting rent, scheduling repairs, etc.). This empowers you to travel the world without needing to babysit your investment.
Start a Dropshipping Business
Who says you can’t be a business owner and travel the world? With a dropshipping business, you can do both.
“Dropshipping is a business model which you can use to run your store without ever holding any inventory,” Oberlo explains. “Once you’ve made a sale your supplier will ship your products from their warehouse, straight to your customer’s doorstep. You’ll never need to worry about storing, packaging, or shipping your products.”
The beauty of dropshipping is that you can run the business from anywhere. And with no need to hold physical inventory, it’s as scalable as you want it to be.
Offer Virtual Consulting
Virtual consulting is another online business option. If you have a particular skill set, such as entrepreneurship or marketing, you can consult with clients over Zoom. This allows you to provide a valuable service in a “face-to-face” manner without being bound to a specific location.
Travel blogging is another option – and probably the dream option for most people reading this post. It allows you to make money doing what you love – seeing and experiencing new things. But in order to succeed with travel blogging, you’ll have to put in a lot of time before you ever see results. You’ll also want to brush up on your copywriting and photography skills to perfect the craft.
Pick Up Odd Jobs
If you’re super adventurous and comfortable interacting with people, try your luck picking up odd jobs every time you come to a new city. This will take some work, but you may find it to be an enjoyable way to make money and embed yourself in local culture.
Enjoy the Best of Both Worlds
You don’t have to choose travel or money. You can travel the world and make money at the same time. Whether it’s renting out your own property, working online, or picking up odd jobs wherever you find yourself, opportunities abound. So go out and satiate those feelings of wanderlust. Travel the world, see new things, and experience as many different cultures as you possibly can!
