The new year is the perfect time to try new things and push yourself out of your comfort zone. Whether you’re a water lover or you’ve only ever been a casual swimmer in the past, 2023 is the year to try some brand-new water activities or participate in water sports.
You may be familiar with swimming, and perhaps you’ve even tried popular water-related sports in the past. However, you might not have tried some of the more obscure activities.

Water-Related Activities to Try in 2023
If you’ve got an upcoming trip to a beach resort or you’re lucky enough to live by the sea, give the following four water-related activities a go in the upcoming new year. You might find a new favorite hobby!
1. Scuba Diving
There are lots of great scuba diving schools, such as Abyss Scuba Diving, where you can learn from expert divers. The diving instructors have years of knowledge and experience in the water, and will make you feel comfortable during your sessions.
Once you’ve learned basic scuba diving techniques, you can start to gain more confidence and independence in the water. Eventually, you’ll be able to get your own scuba diving gear and become self-sufficient without a dive buddy.
2. Snorkeling
Snorkeling is one of the most accessible and beginner-friendly water activities out there. It’s something that you’ll be able to do independently, even with very little experience.
As long as you have the right snorkeling gear, you’ll be able to enjoy hours of fun in the water. You can come face-to-face with a wide range of beautiful sea creatures and witness the breathtaking beauty of the ocean.
Remember to prioritize your safety at all times. Avoid going too far out into the ocean, especially if you’re on your own or if you’re new to the sport.
3. Kayaking
Kayaking is a fun sport for your whole family to enjoy. It’s beginner-friendly and easy to pick up. You can either purchase your own kayaking gear or take lessons with a professional kayaking school.
The main types of kayaking include flatware, sea, and whitewater kayaking, each of which offers unique opportunities to explore different parts of the world. Depending on where you’re kayaking, you’ll be able to witness stunning ocean views, explore caves, or surround yourself with nature.
4. Surfing
If you head to one of the Southern California beaches, you’ll see hundreds of surfers enjoying the waves. The same applies to the stunning coastlines of Australia, where surfing is hugely popular. Although it’s a water sport that takes a lot of skill and practice to get right, the learning process is just as fun as the sport itself.
Surfing is also great for your physical strength and fitness. You need to activate your core to stabilize yourself on the surfboard, and this can stimulate muscle growth and fat loss.
