Christmas is over, the weather is cold and dreary, now is the best time for you to jet off for the weekend and enjoy one of the best cities that Europe has to offer. There has never been a better time to escape the rat race and relax for the weekend, with companies like  www.flybe.com offering a number of fabulous offersyou will be able to get away without breaking the bank! Once you have decided that you want to have a short city break, the next thing you must do is decide which fabulous city you want to visit. Here’s my list of the best 5 cities that you should choose from.

Barcelona, Spain

If you’re looking for a vibrant city that is full of life then look no further than Barcelona! The food, the weather and the people make this city the perfect choice for any city break. If you are heading away with your children then you are not too far from Europe’s number one theme park, Portaventura. The kids will love a day trip there, especially because they can ride Europe’s highest roller coaster and meet the characters from Sesame Street.

Istanbul, Turkey

I loved my visit to Istanbul, it’s such a cool city. Walking along the busy city streets that are lined with coffee shops and restaurants is great, sit at one of the table sand watch the world go by for a while. There are a number of historical sites for you to see as well, the Blue Mosque is an absolute must see! If you are a football lover then check to see if Galatasary are playing the weekend you visit, you won’t meet many more passionate football fans anywhere in the world!

New York

Ok, so you might not be able to do this in a weekend, but it is a great idea for a short city break. You could go for 3 or 4 days. If you haven’t been to ‘The Big Apple’ yet then you must go! It really is the city that never sleeps, it never gets boring either. You can stroll around central park, see the chaos of Times Square or head up to the top of the Empire State Building. New York has something for everyone and is one of the best city breaks that I have ever been on. It’s always good to try and time your break with christmas, not only is the city beautiful during the festive period but you will also be able to pick up some great gifts for your friends and family.

  1. New York’s never been much of a draw for me, but everyone seems to be raving about Barcelona lately and it sounds incredible!
