Shopping for car insurance in Florida isn’t cheap. The average annual full coverage is $2,762, which is $1,000 higher than the $1,771 national average. While full coverage may be expensive in Florida, the state has some of the most lenient requirements.

Under Floridian law, a motorist must carry at least $10,000 in property liability coverage and $10,000 in personal injury protection (PIP). PIP often applies in no-fault states, allowing you to claim accident damages from your insurer, irrespective of who is at fault.

Finding Out Which Florida Car Insurance Will Suit You Best

Not all insurers offer overly expensive rates. You may find some insurers with reasonable rates if you look around. But the rate should not be your only concern; you will need to balance the cost and the quality of the services you get. Before settling for any Florida car insurance company, it would be best to read Cheap Insurance’s guide to understand Florida’s insurance industry better.

What to Look for When Choosing a Car Insurer

Choosing one amongst the many insurance companies offering auto coverage may not be easy. But there are several things that you may want to consider before settling for one, which include:

  • Cost of premiums. When on a budget, the cost of premiums may be top on your list. However, it’s important to ensure that you do not compromise quality for cost.
  • Reviews. Satisfied and dissatisfied customers will leave reviews. So, before engaging, it is wise to check out a company’s reviews first. If it has many negative reviews, it’s best to avoid it.
  • Reputation. Almost every insurance company has a history. Before engaging one, it’s best to understand their history. Know their reputation and the years they have been in service. If it is little known, you may want to avoid it.
  • Available discounts. With the current economic situation, discounts can come in handy. Some possible discounts include safe driver discounts, safe car discounts, multicar insurance discounts, and good student discounts. It is best to check out the different discounts offered by individual companies to gauge where you would get the best deals.

Best Insurance Companies in Florida

1.    GEICO

GEICO is arguably the best overall among all insurance providers in Florida. Some pros of GEICO insurance include having 24-hour customer support, over a dozen potential discounts you could benefit from, and a high customer approval rating.

GEICO has its cons too. While its rates are below average, they are not the cheapest option. Also, qualifying for safe driver discounts may is not as easy as it is on paper.

2.    Esurance

If you are only looking to meet the minimum legal threshold for car insurance, Esurance is the best option. They offer basic coverage for as low as $43 a month.

Additionally, Esurance makes it quite easy for policyholders to file claims. However, this insurance company offers less personalized services, which gives them more auto insurance complaints than expected for a company its size.

3.    State Farm

If your driving history isn’t great, for example, if you had a conviction for DUI, State Farm is your best insurance. After a DUI conviction, a driver can pay up to 54% more on insurance premiums than drivers with a clean record.

Among insurers with good quality service, state farm has the lowest post-conviction increase in premiums.

4.    Progressive Insurance

If you plan to buy car insurance for a teen, you must be prepared to pay more in premiums. But some insurance companies offer different rates for teen drivers.

Progressive Insurance offers the best deals for young drivers, such as low premiums and discounts for teen drivers. The main drawback to Progressive Insurance is that they offer lower-than-average bundling discounts.
