Is Traveling to Canada Expensive for Australians?

Canada is a popular destination and is on the bucket list of many. Its diversity, culture, nature, and food make it just a perfect choice to plan a visit there. 

When making a trip from Australia to Canada, the most common question is about the cost. If planning a budget trip, then there are smart ways you can opt for. Canada, no doubt can be a relatively expensive destination due to the size and the taxes, but when planned properly, you can enjoy a great trip within your budget

Canada is an expensive travel destination in general for most visitors. But when your holiday is planned well, it will be easy for you to enjoy the trip regardless of your budget. Besides, Australians can apply online for an eTA to enter Canada, making the entire process hassle-free.

Canada offers multiple travel experiences, from budget to luxury. You can choose to stay in 5-star hotels or hostels based on your preference. The budget travelers must plan on spending about $100 per day, including a night’s stay, food, public transportation, and limited attractions.

The accommodation cost in Canada will be between $25 to $100 per night, including breakfast. Remember, there will be an 18% tax surcharge on the hotel bill. So it will come to around $120. For transportation, you can choose public transportation. It will be a lot more affordable, or you can choose to rent a car as it will provide you with great flexibility. For private transportation, you must be ready to spend about $100 to $700. While the public transportation will need a maximum of $100.

It will be better if you choose to visit an open-air fresh food market and buy your own products to prepare dinner for yourself. While if you choose a fine dining restaurant, then the dinner for two can cost you around $200, including wine.

If you have already planned to visit Canada, then booking the flights early will be the best as it will allow you to get good deals on your travel. Make sure that you choose to book the airline from a trusted website after 2:00 a.m., as this is the time when you will find the cheapest options. Also, do not forget to go for any deals or offers that you might be getting to save some extra money.

Tips to save money

The government taxes can affect the food and beverage industries, so instead of paying tax, it will be better that you consider packing some snacks or going to the grocery store to purchase self-prepared meals.

Visiting Canada during the off-season will offer great benefits. Spring or fall is known to be the best time to experience Canada to the very best on a budget.

Getting travel insurance will be helpful as it will reduce or eliminate pocket expenses in case of an emergency, illness, or travel disruption.

When traveling between cities you can choose to go for Mega Bus as it will help you save money. If you plan well in advance, you can get a ticket for as low as $1.

Booking your accommodation in the smaller towns will be a lot more affordable.

When to visit Canada?

Australians can apply online for eTA to enter Canada. It will be applicable for five years, during which you have an option to stay for a period of 6 months over there. Remember when planning a trip you must consider spring and fall as during this time the accommodation and other things there will be a lot more affordable. Further, the weather would be favorable, and you will experience one of the best times.

Remember, never travel without travel insurance! And never overpay for travel insurance!
