If you’ve followed my blog you will know that I have chosen a life of travel and exploration. So far on my journey I have visited every country in the world and have many new adventures still to complete. One question I often get asked is why do people like you chose to leave home and see the world? There are many different reasons why people choose to travel, some are personal than others. Here are my top reasons why I think everyone should travel at some point in their life.
The Challenge
When people get stuck in a routine back home they often feel like they’re not achieving anything. You get up, rush to the office, make money for a faceless boss, go home, sleep and repeat. This leaves a lot of people, like myself, wanting something new – whether that be an experience or a challenge. The best way to have an experience and a challenge is to travel. You step outside of your comfort zone, test yourself and find everything you’re craving.
The challenge starts when you have to plan and start saving for your travel – look out for a good referrer code to find the best online deals if you’re looking to save. Then comes the challenge of travel itself when you have to get from A to B, manage a budget and also do crazy things such as bungee jumping or zip lining!
The Education
I think it is pretty much impossible to travel the world and not learn a lot along the way. I think it is also one of the main reasons why people choose to travel – to broaden their horizons, learn about new cultures, experience amazing sights and meet new people.
There is only so much you can learn from a book or in a classroom, nothing compares to learning from experience when you travel. I have lost count the lessons I have learnt on the road, I grew so much as individual, my friends and family instantly noticed the difference when I came back from my first trip. Now when I watch the news I can understand about the locations they’re talking about, the religions and the people too.
You also meet so many amazing people along the way, both locals and fellow travellers. Engaging with people you wouldn’t usually chat to back home teaches you so many new things and opens your mind to ways of thinking you may not have considered before. You also learn simple things like great books or websites such as WAB!
Anyone Can Do It
So many people choose not to take the leap and travel because they think it isn’t possible – that should not be an excuse because anyone can do it. Money is often a major factor why people don’t try and travel, true money might be tight but that just means it will take you longer than others to save up the funds. Even if it takes 2 years to save up enough money to travel it is well worth the effort. Flights have never been cheaper, before you know it you can be on the other side of the world have the time of your life.
Many of my readers have contacted me to thank me for the inspiration to get out and see the world. The major lesson is that you just need to take the leap, you never know you might absolutely love it. If you find that travel isn’t for you well then you can always go back home – but I would say once you take the leap there will be no looking back!
